Had pizza and homemade apple pie at POCAR a couple of weeks ago. Man, that was the bomb.

In UK, many brands of weaning foods are pleasant savoury options, in pouches like clif bar. Also, fruit puree pouches are cheaper and more palatble than gels, although less energy dense. Supermarket own brands are best value, of course, but branded pouches are reasonable when eg 5 for £4.

Actual pizza works well as race food too - very energy dense and not too hard to contain, once cooled/congealed, in ziploc or foil.

Real pizza is good. I can only imagine pizza in a pouch would be like (re)eating a vurp.

Pizza has always been the super food for racing. That and wraps. Yum. I believe it was Phil who told me a story once about a wrap that practically saved his life at a TA.

At a 48hr race in 98 my team only brought bars and gels. We were in 3rd coming into a TA and saw a team of SEALs and their SEAL support crew all eating Burger King happy meals. Back then, we thought they were insane...but I guess after you've done "real" adventure races with people shooting shoulder-mounted rockets and bullets at you, and the Raid Gauloises, you learn what works and what doesn't at a given pace/conditions.

Burger King makes Happy Meals?

McD's, B.K., KFC.... any of these things during a race is a happy meal

Agreed. Calories and palatability trump everything else. There is plenty of suffering to be had without having to force down gross food.

we got some of these at Alpine Shop, so they should be available at other outlets as well now. I tried the pizza flavor. not very appealing. I guess that might change if I tried it in a race vs. just sitting at my desk. but then I think I would rather have real pizza.
