That's a great find!!! I find it so fascinating that they will congregate like that to nest.

Yes - geek moment. And I love it! :)

It was wonderful - not geeky in any way! :) We always appreciate the scenery while we course test but we seldom come to a full stop and just stare at something. It was like a great blue heron Shangri-La with big birds swooping happily in every direction.

I think there's one of these areas just north of Bolton too. Maybe it will be a checkpoint in the Wild B.O.A.R. :)

By the time Wilderness Traverse happens, you'll have a 3-month-old baby. So I assume you'll be racing, right?

I know where there is (or was) one of those that is about a 3-4 hour paddle plus a 15 min hike from Bala... but I doubt it is the same one... hard to say for certain from the pic.

I wonder if they return to the same 'ponds' every year.

I found it more like Jurrasic Park than Shangri-la :-) ... but I may have startled them... the racket (squawking) was unbelievable

FB, you'll have to come to the race and see if it's the same heronry!

Good! It wouldn't be a 24-hour race in Ontario without you there.
