Ha! Thanks. It's funny because I was just talking about this with some of the other ski racers. When we can, most of us will race every Saturday and Sunday all season long. I don't know another sport where people race so frequently. (Road cycling probably is the closest.) The thing is that our season is so short, every day with snow is precious, so we take advantage of it. Usually, though, the two races are different techniques (one skate and one classic.)
Ditto that! Xcountry is tough...you go girl.
Thanks! I don't think it's any harder than any other sport (running, biking...) Once you have the technique down, you can ski much faster than you can run. :) Of course, that's the key right there - technique, technique, technique...
Ah...of course...I gotta learn it then! :)
If you want, I'll teach you some time! It's a little harder to learn to do it "right" on waxless skis, but you can get the idea. The big keys are 1. the kick is down to compress the ski (not back) in order to drive off the ski as it compresses into the snow and 2. 100% of the weight should be on one ski at any time while striding. I'll be up at Hanson Hills for the Hanson Hills Classic 12K (in Grayling) on Feb 17. You should drive up and ski for the day and I can give you some tips before/after the race.
I might do that! Let me see what I can do, that would be awesome!
