Sounds amazing. Could also use this as an IFFAC activity...
Wow, nice trip. I want to hike and paddle that section as well sometime. This explains the uncharacteristic post race hiatus - there was no hiatus!
Yeah, I will look into the best timing and then put it out there as a "anyone who wants to join" activity, though I would probably recommend getting in at least a 25-mile trek in before attempting this! (I did 30 miles out and back on the Pinckney/Waterloo trails in 10 hours once and learned that I needed to alter my footwear/foot care plan)
Ha! Yeah, I can't take a long break like that unless I was under some sort of strict doctor's order. Paddling Pictured Rocks would be very cool and a very good way to see the cliffs! I wanted to do the whole thing by canoe, but figured a 5-day trip was too questionable for changes in weather and didn't want to get stranded with my canoe and no good weather on the horizon. If you plan to paddle, have a back-up plan in case of wind. There are lots of day hikes in to the beaches. I recommend Chapel due to proximity to great views!
Would 20 miles of Canadian Shield count? :-)
My buddy wants to backpack the Waterloo Pinckney trail; I'm trying to talk him into a straight shot. Both versions sound fun, but I don't have to carry as much if we don't stop.
I did the Waterloo-Pinkney straight through once. You only need about 11 hours if you do it at night... maybe less if you do it in the day time. We had trouble finding the trail at one point at night. Straight through is the way!
For Pictured Rocks straight through, I think as long as you have experience with 8-10 hours straight on your feet, that would be enough.
Pictured Rocks by water has been on my list, and now "by land" seems intriguing....thanks for the inspiration.
