Here's a quick run-down of the 4-day Untamed New England Expedition Race set for June 2014:
October 2013 Untamed New England News.
With over a year and a half in development, the race course is a grand traversal of the Maine highlands. Truly more an adventure than a race!
Looks like an excellent race, with several great teams signed up already!
How many teams can you take?
Depends on 4 person vs 2 or 3, but generally around 45 teams is our ceiling. Several strong European teams have reached out to us about rental gear etc, so I think the field will get significantly tougher in the next few weeks.
That would be very cool if you got some good European Teams (and very cool to see the Ecuadorian flag on the list).
I really look forward to this year's race! it looks like it's going to be an epic journey in very remote areas, with the Untamed New England/Grant professional touch.
The only race I have never heard anyone complain about anything
Aye, Randy, that's asking for trouble!
I'm sure Barb wasn't thrilled with their mandatory gear penalty that bumped them off the podium in 2010. 2012 Thule was so ahead of schedule they had to trek the "epic packraft" since we couldn't open the dam in the dark; I did tell them to slow down!
There's always areas to improve, just like for race teams. So don't anyone think Untamed New England is complacent (or perfect).
I wasn't thrilled but I could hardly complain about a legit penalty. Coming 4th was nice too. ;)
You're one who appreciates those just inconveniences, Barb, and I certainly appreciate it.
Incidentally, I know a couple good Canadian teams searching for a fit female racer if you're free in June...
:) I'd like to come down to help you but not sure about timing of final WT work.
I know there's a place for this on the website, but I thought I'd start here. If anyone is looking for a teammate, I'd like to race this one again, but the rest of my team is unavailable, so I'm looking to join a team. If interested, e-mail me to discuss. address is my first and last names at yahoo.
If anyone is on the fence about this race, let me tell you... DO IT! - Bossy and I volunteered 2yrs ago (the Kavish's!) and had a blast! Grant and Crew (mind you, I guess I we were part of that crew!!) did an amazing job we thought and it was super cool and learned a ton seeing the inside of such a big race, if on the fence, GET OFF! and sign up!
It is killing us that we can't do it this year...
Here is a slideshow of some of the pic's I took if curious:

Thanks Osteo for the testimonial!
It's a shame you can't join! Who are we going to find to lug all that gear to the mountain top checkpoints this June? Who is going to do free massage therapy on the race teams when they finish? It won't be the same without you guys.
Yeah, lugging that treatment table to the top of Burnt Mtn was a big tough, but we managed... In the dark no less!!!
Trust me, it was a tough decision,... St. Lucia or UNE... And as much as Bossy is super eager for UNE (as I), with the other races we want to do, burnt out and $$ plus the more important keeping the spouse happy! St. Lucia won.
The irony is I'd bet the people at UNE are way fitter and healthier than the people we would see at the beach or on the trails in St. Lucia except that they would just smell way better!!
Dude, St Lucia is a darn fine excuse :)
Just went through the list of teams attending and can't believe the depth of talent coming to UNE 2014. Going to be an amazing race!!!!
We'll be closing registration the end of this week (11 April). Team roster is up to date at
http://www.untamedne.com/ExpeditionRoster.aspx (with a handful of teams with "payment en route", including another top South American team).
Once it's all said and done, 25% of our race teams will be from
outside Canada and the USA.
I know of two teams looking to add a fourth racer to their team in June; one is from the Mid-Atlantic and one is from all over (they're coming together for the first time at the race).
If you're into AR "swinging" like this, here's your chance :)
I recently learned that American racers are much more into such things than, say, New Zealanders.
...and where did you learn that?
Well, Randy, I heard this in an interview with Nathan Fa'avae on this neat AR podcast called TA1. ;)
