1. | The train of O'ers behind me was longer than Marc's and Nick's combined so I felt good. Puked in this area last year at the Boulder Dash so didn't push too hard. This was a good one to skip. I was dared to skip the last one so I waited.
2. | Got ahead by avoiding the hill. Fast downhill.
3. | Ventured too far left and bashed through green with Marc, Nick, Mark, and Benoit.
4. | Onto the road, stayed back since I was considering a skip of #5, but punched in first and then glanced back to see if others were considering this good choice.
5. | Others went left too much, rocky running so I slowed down.
6. | Both Marc and I fell coming out this control - I think he was more hurt. Voit and I went right of the pond in Molly Swamp. Slower than left.
7. | Followed Marc. Hey! Its allowed isn't it.
8. | Marc skipped this so I ran really hard to 8. Straight on. The large boulders made for easy navigation.
9. | +00:30 | Still running hard to catch Marc I got stuck in some nasty underbrush and then missed the control to the left but had caught Marc. Nick and Voit caught me up.
10. | +00:15 | Tired now, Marc got away. A slightbobble to the left of the control.
11. | +00:15 | Missed left and lost sight of Marc
12. | Nick Duca started going left so I ran hard through the pines to get ahead of him.
13. | Left Fork: ALong trail to rock wall. Right fork with a skip of #14 was the logical skip in my opinion but I was ahead of Duca and still wanted to skip #23 (for fun).
14. | Straight. *&^* of a climb (definately the one to skip - Pam James skipped it and she skipped the best one last year - #2....)
15. | +01:00 | Lost trail and almost ran off map. Missed way to the left. THe steep hill caught me from making a BIG mistake.
16. | Straight. Duca caught me up.
17. | Ran hard to trail then left and cut back in at hill. Lost site of Duca
18. | Road. Saw Marc 55 seconds ahead of me. If I was going to skip#23 I would have to catch him. Looking back I realized that either a) Duca had really messed up #17 or b) he was skipping #18. Now I really had to run hard.
19. | +00:30 | Poor visibility and a risky route (straight) with NO ATTACK POINT (by the way, nice web site Kenny). Lost 30 seconds.
20. | Ran very fast! Caught and passed Marc. Only Nick to go.
21. | Straight again (it is the shortest route). Caught Nick about 100m from 21. The race was on and I have a skip left.
22. | +00:15 | We bothmissed to the left (not wanting to the other out of site). He punched 3 seconds before me.
23. | |||||||
F. | Skipping #24 I could run farther but in better running by taking the trail to the right. A &*%&^ of a climb but had many nice fellow Billygoaters on route to #13 cheering me on (Thanks!). Cut into the chute about 15m from finish only to hear "*&&*^&^... NOOOOO" from Nick. Another well organized race by UNO! Thanks! When and where next year? Don't miss our 25km two-person team Ultra-O on November 12th in Hamilton, Ontario! -Mike Waddington (wadding@mcmaster.ca) |
