Kayaking / Canoeing 1:00:00 [3] 6.6 km (6.6 kph)

Paddle back from WT CP12. Rough distance/time.

Saturday Aug 18, 2012 #

Event: Tough Mudder

9 AM

Trail/Off-road Running race 3:36:00 [3] 16.7 km (12:56 / km) +797m 10:27 / km
shoes: Saucony Peregrine 2 (BlackRed)

Tough Mudder. Race report and updated mileage/ascent to come.

[TM 16km +721m ascent. We took more distance and climbing because we'd always loop back after a big climb/descent. Still only 2/3rds the amount of climbing required for Killington, relatively speaking.]
5 PM

Kayaking / Canoeing 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (6.0 kph)

Paddle out to WT CP12, rough distance/time. Headwind, 3 people in the boat with gear, using kayak paddle (they were using canoe paddles)

Friday Aug 17, 2012 #

8 AM

Trail/Off-road Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 3.31 km (6:03 / km)
shoes: Saucony Peregrine 2 (BlackRed)

Warmup run plus some sprint intervals to open-up and power-up [a warmup experiment, 10 minutes + 1x300m, 3x150m sprints with walk recovery]

Trail/Off-road Running 1:09:00 [3] 13.0 km (5:18 / km)
shoes: Saucony Peregrine 2 (BlackRed)

Hydrocut. Tight fast single track, minimal mud.

Core / Weights 15:30 [3]
shoes: Saucony Peregrine 2 (BlackRed)

310 Burpees. Meant to do more, but doesn't work well with glasses.
12 PM

Note

Rather than run track, I felt much more like running a second loop of the orienteering course at Homer-Watson Park. The temperature was perfect and it felt really awesome to fly along the single track and cut across through the woods (even with the amusing face-plant when I unexpectedly stepped into muck up to my knees).

A bit later, we came across some teenagers building some sweet bmx jumps and rollers in the woods, climbing and banking off the slopes on either side. Had to pause and take it in. I'm sure the city will catch on soon enough and be there bulldozing it, but in this moment it's this great bit of industriousness and creativity, no adult there to discourage them, and nothing but the limits of their imaginations and the laws of physics to hold them back. Great things happening here.

6 PM

Trail/Off-road Running (Orienteering) 50:00 [3] 6.35 km (7:52 / km) +171m 6:56 / km
shoes: Saucony Peregrine 2 (BlackRed)

Orienteering at Homer Watson. Two laps of the course.
10 PM

Hiking intervals (Stairmaster) 35:00 intensity: (17:30 @3) + (17:30 @4) 0.63 km (1.1 kph) +634m

Stair master intervals, stuff that makes Chicopee seem exciting!

Was kind of strange to be in this largely empty gym late at night on this piece of equipment that has been largely ignored since the 90s...I'm still sure this is a good thing.

35 minutes 634.5m ascent (stair master reports 6.5kms, lol... not likely)
13x 1@120+1@60 spm, 3x 1@125+1@60 spm, 1x 1.5@60+1.5@125 spm
11 PM

Note

OK, I lowered myself today to the level of someone "correcting stuff that's wrong on the interwebs" ... but really, Tough Mudder is an *obstacle race* not an adventure race, lol :-D [not that is shouldn't be fun]

Not the upper body weights day it was purported to be...
