Orienteering race 1:25:40 [4] 5.7 mi (15:02 / mi)
shoes: Solomon Speedcross - Green
Sunday Red F-21+
BF started an hour before Mr. W and I, so we walked with him up to the start area to scope it out. It was a ~600 m walk up a decent sized hill. Good warmup. BF headed off and we went back to the car to get ready and then trudged back up to the start.
Really happy with my navigation today. My legs felt pretty good and I was able to keep up a decent pace while staying in contact with the map. Hit the first couple controls right on. Chose a questionable route to 3 and had to climb a lot higher in the reentrant than I was expecting, no errors just slow. A small error on the way to 6, I didn't see the ride I was looking for so ran a little too far before I realized it and turned around. Probably a suboptimal route to 7, but it worked. Largest mistake was on 8, I got distracted by a group of people at a control (not mine...) and took a few minutes to relocate. Everything went smoothly after that. Pretty happy with the results of my first national meet!
