Disclaimer...this was a good run. All problems didn't effect performance...well maybe 7.
I warmed up at the model map and soon realised my specs wouldn't work. Kept falling over, couldn't run and picking out features was difficult. Swapped out my compass for Kendal's too, as I was miles off on all bearings.
Warmed up nicely listening to The Mags go 1-0 up. So started positive and happy. (Newcastle effects my whole Saturday).
Then 15 mins before my start I thought...maybe that O store has a magnifier? It took 7 mins to purchase and 7 mins to attach. Now to execute Plan B.
1. Slow and steady..nailed it, but 20m off in approaching .
2. Parallel error complete balls up. And this was the easiest control. I saw it as I ran past. 5 mins. GAME OVER.
3-11 Steady away. (I'd made a note of what Boris had said about Wiley's run at Tahoe and made a mental note of identifying 9 as I went through 4). 7 pissed me off because I overran it and found a depression SW of it. Only later, with the iPhone magnifier, did I see mine was hidden under the circle. This cost me 1min??
(Coming out of 9 someone cheered me on, which was nice, I then promptly inhaled something large from a spiders web. It was massive. I can still feel it wriggling in my left lung.)
12. I was tired. More tired of concentrating than running so took what now looks like a 1 min longer route choice than the winner. To be honest I'd still take that safer option now. I can see the benefit of going straight and contouring in, but I'd have blown it.
The race was lost at 2. Nowhere else. In fact if I hadn't walked the model things would have gone south much worse.
NB. Back is now sore, as is my eyeball. Scratched my eyeball entering the road to 5. Now it's really shitty. Newcastle drew. Grrrr.
