Orienteering race (Springfield Rogaine) 4:01:43 [3]
shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

And the map with intended route (23 was the first control)

Springfield Rogaine with Matt, who spent the entire time hooning around energetically, and I suffered along behind him. Sadly I forgot to take the gps, but I have a nice log of the carpark.
In hindsight, I would probably say that my 30min runs don't quite prepare the body, or the spirit for 4hrs of suffering. I found it a very nice map for a rogaine, quite steep on the lower slopes, but not ridiculously high (about 450m difference). Not nearly as awful as climbing those same hills at 2am on twalk so many years ago. Amusingly ctrl 81 was also a twalk site.

Anyway, we employed the usual planning tactics, and ambitiously linked all the controls. Then headed off and ran with Greig and Tim for a while, but they were being slack and skipping 20pt controls.
I was feeling reasonable for the first 2.5hrs, but then my poor legs started to weary, and I really started to struggle down the hills. Up was alright, but down; more of shuffle with Matt hooning away.
Still it all ended up ok, we only missed one control, were only a couple of minutes late, and we managed to win a jet boat ride for two, and wolf down many sausages.
