Running (Road) 19:00 [2]

Warmup for middle.

Orienteering race (Woods) 42:31 [3] *** 5.9 km (7:12 / km) +25m 7:03 / km

Middle distance at Busse Woods (CAOC, 1:10). First time I've made it through a whole course at Busse with no disaster legs. Did have a few bobbles and lost around 2:30 on a section where the trail network was so complex (on the ground - the map made it look pretty simple) that I just pushed through the green. Pretty pleased with the result. 5th on Blue.

Terrain (Grass) 15:00 [2]

Warmup for sprint.

Orienteering race (Woods) 14:55 [4] *** 2.2 km (6:47 / km) +9m 6:39 / km
12c

My usual disaster in the sprint, on a 1:5 version of the Busse map.

Cycling (Road) 50:00 [2]

In to work at a very brisk clip assisted by a massive tailwind. Felt like riding rollers - hardly any resistance, even in the 75 and I didn't want to go higher than that with the races coming up.

None to pleased about the G value. Yesterday was supposed to be a gain and I felt like I was eating plenty. I'm definitely not dehydrated, so something's amiss with carb stores. Legs felt OK this morning, but I wasn't really asking anything of them, either. Fortunately, tomorrow's races are short, but if I go into them depleted, I don't know how I'll get the levels topped up for Sunday. Ah well, it probably won't matter much. Sunday will be sufficiently green that I'll have to get off the gas a little bit, anyway.

Model event at Willow Springs (CAOC 1:10). Jogged most of the legs, walked a few to get a good look at some of the more interesting features. Then ran the last 1.5K at close to competition speed to get used to moving fast through the thick stuff.

Setting the course for the Third Thursday Adventure Run at Forest 44 (1:15).

Control pickup. Probably more than I needed to run two days before an A-meet, but I was going pretty easy both sessions.

Running (Road) 22:00 [2]

After work over to SLU and back.

Testing the viability of St. Louis U as a sprint venue using the aerial at 1:5. Lot's of fun, even at a pokey pace. With a good map and a carefully set course, it could be quite excellent. Lot's of passageways and uncrossable fences affecting route choice. Don't know if I need to cross Grand or not to get enough distance.

Cycling (Road) 58:00 [2]

Quick shoe change and home via Olive. At 5PM. In the rain. Fun? Not so much.

Cycling (Road) 55:00 [2]

In to work. Blew off the morning track work again. It's just too much to try to shoehorn it in when I'm getting out on a map every day. I'm sure the map work is more valuable.

Cycling (Road) 1:18:00 [2]

From work to Emmennegger and then home. First 45 minutes was super easy since I wanted my legs fresh for the run.

Orienteering (Woods) 24:24 [4] *** 2.5 km (9:46 / km) +95m 8:12 / km

Emmennegger test loop. No chance for a PR with the vegetation still thick and just to make a slow time worse, I boomed 12. However, an excellent session for moving through the green stuff quickly. Still not sure how fast I should try to move through the green at Country Lane this weekend, but I'm thinking I should give it a go at full speed and see what happens.

3x500@3:25-3:40 6:00R at Babler (1:15). Pretty much the same drill as Friday, but these legs were set in light green. Followed with a control picking course that was supposed to train focus when tired. Failing at that, it was more a session of correcting stupid mistakes when tired.

Scoping out the Third Thursday course for December using the USGS quad. Some fun stuff, but I'll have to enhance the map to make it work. Mostly trail and grass, but some roads as well. Did a major face plant while running on the sidewalk and reading the map.
