Orienteering 1:10:00 [3]

Flying Pig: Red 4.9 km = 49:01

No excuses physically today. I was able to run and even had a full out hard sprint to the finish. We'll see how fast it was or wasn't. Other than on climbs where I am not very fast, I really couldn't have moved much faster or I would my head would not have been able to keep up. For the most part, my nav. was pretty good except for 15. I went across the sloop look up for the control when it was below me. I made a big circle going up, back, relocating then down for a loss of probably 2 min or so. Also had a poor route choice from 5-6. Otherwise, I was navigating well and getting as much out of my legs as I could. And in spite of the thorniness, I enjoyed the challenge -- I was focused and concentrating the whole time and that is really fun.

A couple of youngsters got me today on red.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3]

Pig Sprint: 2 km in 12:39
I felt stiff and sore warming up so I had low expectations for a sprint. However, as it turned out I was able to get moving decently well. I wore my compression socks and the faster running buts me forward on my toes; for some reason both are better for my calf. I think my right knee is actually an impact injury from sometime on the course yesterday; don't remember when.

I found the sprint challenging and fun. The controls were very close together and that really kept me on thinking fast. I had one sub-par route choice and lost map contact once for a total loss of maybe 10s. Fun race.

I got third on red behind John Williams and Greg B. Baltered!

Pig MIddle: 4.5 km in 42:43.
24 controls, low vis, dense veg, intricate and dense trail network = stress! I was planning, counting features, talking out loud,... but it always felt like a big boom was possible with the slightest error. I lost some time on a couple route choices and some long relocation pauses. Overall though, I'm satisfied with my focus and nav. execution, and I was running ok. That said, it was back to stiff, sore and wobbly afterwards. Now I'm icing my mysterious knee injury. Fun, intense but fun.

First on red but I would have been well off the pace on blue.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]

Flying Pig Middle
Red course, 4.8 km, 250m climb = 48:01
Quite a grind. Warm temps, thick veg, lots of climb. I had some bobbles but they were small and not too outlandish give the thick veg. Left calf started to get a little tight and because I was running funny now my right knee is sore. I hope I make it through the weekend.

All my red course buddies ran blue! I wish someone had told me that was the plan.
