Trekking/Hiking 1:40:00 [3]

Alas, sadly, my trip home had to begin today! I got one more hike in on the trails at Little River State Park, one of my favourite parks of all time I think! A lot of the trails in the park are old 19th century farm roads with lots of cool interpretive panels, and I was super into learning about the farms and other buildings that were in the area. There were two little cemeteries that I enjoyed poking around as well.

Spending the night in Wellesley Island State Park in New York before finishing the drive home tomorrow!

Cycling 1:20:00 [3]

It was quite difficult to figure out what to do with my last full day in Vermont! My heart was pulled in a bunch of different directions, but my brain didn’t want to drive any further than necessary! After receiving an invitation to meet up with someone I met here years ago for a beer in Stowe, I settled on biking at Cady Hill forest from a really cool place called Ranch Camp - a bike shop and restaurant right at the trailhead. Like most of my rides on this trip, there was a lot of climbing and I was not feeling particularly confident today. I rode a loop around the trails, then took a downhill trail that spit me out to the road. I rode the Stowe recreation path back into town, then wanted a little bit more time so rode up Cady Hill road back into the trails to finish. I had a beer and lunch at ranch camp, then walked across the road to Doc Ponds to meet up with my friend. It was a beautiful hot day here!

Running 1:18:00 [3]

Morning run on the beautiful trails in Little River State Park. Without even meaning to, I ended up redoing an exact route I’d run in 2016 when I was here. It’s been super hot the past week, but today was lovely and cool and I really enjoyed this. Of course, the first half of it was uphill which meant a lot of hiking, but it was a really fun long downhill on the other side!

Cycling 1:07:00 [3]

I google mapped the distance to my favourite pub in Waterbury, and realized it was only a 6 mile ride. Thought it would be fun to bike there and back as my afternoon activity with the bonus of giving Earl a day off! The ride there was super fun and fast and net downhill, which made the ride back uphill after a couple of beers a little bit less fun! Partway through my ride home I ran into a girl that I met at the exact same pub who was running with her dog along the park road. We stopped and had a nice chat. We have followed each other on Instagram since we met in 2017, and it was one of those moments that made you realize social media can be for good!

Trekking/Hiking 3:10:00 [3]

When Amber and I were in Vermont in December, we climbed a mountain called Mount Pisgah. Across the lake from it was Mount Hor and I wanted to do it someday…like today! I started from my campsite which added bit of extra distance and climbing, but hey I had all day! The climb up the mountain itself was probably a bit harder than expected, but that could also be several days of hard work in my legs!

Cycling 45:00 [3]

Had a lunch break after my hike, then decided to bike to the lake will it be store for an ice cream! The forecast for tomorrow is looking pretty grim, and with a lot on my itinerary, it sounds like a good day for a rest day!

Cycling 1:26:00 [3]

Back to Kingdom Trails for another great ride! I started in the main part of town and went into the welcome centre to ask for advice on my planned route. I got some great suggestions including doing it the opposite way I had planned on to get the climbing over with at the beginning. I ended up riding some of the trails that Amber and I did when we were here in the winter, it was very cool to see them without snow!

Cycling 1:36:00 [3]

Beautiful morning of riding at Kingdom Trails. I started from the Village Sport Shop Trailside, which has a coffee bar, beer, patio, food trucks and a bike shop. What an awesome location! I asked for some advice on where to start, and put together a great loop. Tons of climbing as expected which made my legs run out of gas earlier than my heart did!
