Orienteering (Sprint Model) 40:00 [1] ***
shoes: Salomon TR2

Walked / jogged the Mountaintop campus model event with Jackson upon arriving in Bethlehem.

Run - Road warm up/down 40:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon TR2

Walk to the start - once for my course, then again with Jackson. I jogged most of it for mine, walked with Jackson. Lots O climb...

Orienteering race (Lehigh Sprint Red) 23:58 [5] *** 3.1 km (7:44 / km) +58m 7:04 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

Good race, awesome venue. One hesitation came down a slope at an angle to avoid mulched bed (wasn't green though) and ended up a bit west of where I wanted to be, couldn't make sense of the vegetation (white vs open), then turned around and saw flag right behind me - 20s lost there. A few other spots where my route wasn't the optimum (based upon post race reading of the map), but I chose my routes and executed them well. 1st place M45 and hopefully worth some decent sprint points..

Orienteering (Lehigh Sprint White) 28:47 [3] *** 1.7 km (16:56 / km) +10m 16:27 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

Shadowing Jackson on Rec White Sprint. I really liked the fact that DVOA made the rec courses use the same course, and the competitors got to be part of the same system - call up lines, e-punching, download - the whole works. It really gave Jackson the full A-meet experience. he had a great time and did really well with only very mimimal coaching on my part.

Orienteering (Crandalls) 36:00 [1] 2.0 km (18:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon TR2

White course line-o training with Jackson. Highlighted a trail route on map and had him follow it - practicing folding the map, keeping it oriented and announcing the major features he was looking for and then when he reached them. He walked past two trail junctions but realized within a minute or so that things weren't right, and then relocated/back tracked with a little nudging. Monday will be interesting, to say the least...

Hiking 40:00 [1] 3.86 km (10:22 / km) +70m 9:30 / km
shoes: Puma Sierra Trail Racers

Didn't feel like the hassle of changing clothes this AM, so walked up to Crystal Lake to retrieve the car rather than running. Nice morning for a walk though..

Run - Road 18:00 [3] 3.86 km (4:40 / km) +70m 4:17 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

dropped car off at Doug's at dawn, run home to pick up bike...

Bike - Recumbent (commute) 1:14:00 [3] 24.0 km (3:05 / km) +300m 2:54 / km
shoes: Slipstream

after running back from Doug's, hopped on the bike for the work commute. New pedals work really nice. Nice morning for riding, quads complaining a bit near the end. Expecting a new crank with lower gearing tomorrow - should help keep me spinning on the steeper hills.

Bike - Recumbent (commute) 1:00:00 [3] 18.8 km (3:11 / km) +300m 2:57 / km
shoes: Slipstream

The direct route as I had to make sure I was home for the bus...

Bike - Recumbent (Lake & back) 30:00 [1] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

got home early and went for a casual ride out to the lake with Ellen. Sprinkling lightly, but fun to get out...

Note

Run - Trail race (Soapstone Sampler) 28:30 [5] 6.1 km (4:40 / km) +100m 4:19 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

Ran the Sampler with the kids. They were content to run their own races, and since the sampler has an age handicapped start, they were off a few minutes before me anyway. So I opted to race it. Starting in the 'E' group, I knew there were a number of fast looking younger runners in the few waves starting after me, so my goal was to run hard on the early dirt road section, to put myself out of their sights and hopefully they wouldn't reel me in. Ran well the whole race, passing lots of folks in the first half. By the time I was down off Hedgehog and back on Sodom Road, I was by myself, no one in sight ahead or behind... Kept the pace as hard as I could and into the finish.

This is probably the only time in my life where I'll see my name ahead of such legendary trail running names as Nephew and Schmidt. (ok, it was Stephanie Nephew and Liz Schmidt, but they're both strong runners in their own right.)

When I finished, I was told one person finished ahead of me but apparently he started in the wrong start group and they would adjust the results accordingly. Didn't stick around as I went back out and jogged the course in reverse to catch up with and finish the back half with my kids.

When we finished up their races I was told that the time difference had put me in first place.. I got a rock.... (its a very nice rock, BTW).

Next year there is talk of setting up an even shorter kids race - my kids are able to finish the 4 miler, but they do end up walking most of the second half. It will be great to see a shorter race tailored just for the kids...

PS - This years winning time was about a minute slower than last years 4th place finish.

Run - Trail warm up/down (Sampler redux75) 30:00 [1] 3.0 km (10:00 / km) +75m 8:53 / km
shoes: Salomon TR2

easy jog back out on the course in reverse to catch up and check on the kids. They were all in a group coming up the N side of Hedgehog when I caught up to them. Jackson kid of took off after the top and I walk/jogged the remaining way be with Anna and Hayden.
