Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Mix of road, doubletrack trail and ravine scrambling in Earl Bales area.
Knee was OK during but let me know a touch afterwards.

Tuesday Sep 27, 2011 #

Running (Commute) 50:00 [2]

To work with a little extra singletrack, then back via the short route to start off the O-training session.

Monday Sep 26, 2011 #

Note

Female recumbent rider just tied the all-time male Time Trial record at the Texas TT 12 hour- a course with a lot of climbing.

Interesting unfaired FWD recumbent TT machine.

Cycling 1:45:00 [2]

Flat but gorgeous ride with Bash on the Algonquin Rail Trail.
Colours were jaw-dropping! Lots of bear scat on the trail.

They're extending the trail quite a way West. There were about 6km of new trail this time.

Running 1:47:00 intensity: (1:43:00 @2) + (4:00 @5)
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Gorgeous run on the Mizzy Lake loop with Bash. Great fall colours on a cloudy day after a rainy night.

My knee felt just fine until I opened it up for a couple of short fast speed intervals on the rail trail.
I think that the increased range of motion needed to run fast is what's hurting my knee- I had the same problem after speed intervals before WT.

Paddlng 1:00:00 [1]

Easy paddle out to our wedding rock.
Dead calm, warm, and clouds breaking up made for amazing conditions!

Cycling (Commute+) 1:10:00 [3]

Out to work and back via singletrack with Bulletdog. She's getting some speed back after a summer too hot for her to run.

Can't wait for Bazingadog to be old enough to come biking.
He worked a full day yesterday while Bash was out running, and he was a good little fellow.

Note

This is what the second and third fastest human powered bike speed runs look like. Both over 120kph.

Orienteering 1:28:18 [2] 5.73 km (15:25 / km) +88m 14:19 / km
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Out hanging the flags for the Palgrave Cat's Cradle O-training for next Tuesday.

Time includes running the actual course, and hanging and labeling all the control flags. My knee told me that was enough.

Managed to only pick up a couple of burrs, and kept my feet dry.
It should take an hour or so at a reasonable pace. Good thing- it gets dark by 7:30 PM.

Cycling (Commute) 50:00 [1]

Easy ride with the bulletdog on the Omega bike.

Monday Sep 19, 2011 #

Running (Commute) 25:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP4 Yellow

Knee was a bit sore from the weekend but not too bad, and my cold's almost gone. Bulletdog's enjoying the colder weather.

Running (Commute) 27:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP4 Yellow

Run back in the pouring rain.
My cloud-based forecast from Saturday was 1 day late.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Back out early with Bash (Whose idea was that to go biking early after last night's festivities?) for more biking on the Barrens. We did an out-and-back on the snowmobile trail portion of LRS too, before doing the bigger loop.
This kind of riding will spoil us for what we usually do- it's so much fun bouncing along with great traction on smooth-ish rock.

Made it back in time for brunch at Pine Crest- yum!

Perfect weather for a perfect weekend, and a perfect wedding!

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Early morning run with Harps and Best Man Phats back on the barrens. At one point some duck-hunting bozos fired off a shotgun and Phats flew down backwards like he'd been clotheslined. Our yelling didn't dampen the hunters' enthusiasm.

Knee was pretty good after! Back to Pine Crest for Phatty Jr and 2-min's wedding- details to follow.

Friday Sep 16, 2011 #

Cycling 40:00 [2]

Off for a ride on the LRS course at Torrance Barrens with Bash, before checking in at Camp Pinecrest.
Met up with Harps also riding the rocks, but Bash broke a chain so we sent him on ahead. There's still part of a quick-link out there.

Great riding on this nice rocky terrain- beats mud, roots and logs. The 'bent loves it!

Cycling (Commute) 40:00 [3]

Cycling 1:20:00 [3]

Off to my environmental meeting in Caledon East. Starting off freezing on the way home in the dark was good incentive not to dawdle.

Bentblaster V2.2 is a better bike light- it was perfect!

Wednesday Sep 14, 2011 #

Strength 30:00 [3]

Solid Forest Fit workout- decline and clap pushups, pull-ups and hanging rowing, KBs, and core with extra weight of Bazingadog climbing all over me.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [2]

More work on the orienteering map for the CN training, then a run to work.
Checking out areas to avoid. Looks like some areas that look clear on the map are now nettle-and-bur-hell.

You're welcome.

Running (Commute) 27:00 [2]

Easy night run home with the latest Bentblaster light 4.0. Bulletdog was lagging a bit- maybe a day off for her tomorrow.

Tuesday Sep 13, 2011 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Out working on a CN training course in Palgrave West, before and after work.

Running (Commute+) 40:00 [2]

Commute bits after orienteering part way.

Note
(sick)

Bleagh. Cold's worse, so I drove.

Sunday Sep 11, 2011 #

Cycling 2:15:00 intensity: (1:30:00 @2) + (45:00 @3)

Down to Albion for the Fall Five running race. I pre-rode, was the pace bunny for both races, and did sweep duties. In between races I got some good singletrack riding in, as well as more on the way home. Trails in A++ condition.

The 5K was won in 17:09, with a huge margin over second. Pretty quick for a fairly hilly doubletrack trail race. The 2.5k came down to a sprint finish between a boy and girl in under 9 minutes. We should video these kids for technique!

Strength 30:00 [2]

Assorted Forest Fit Pull-ups, then KBs and home gym work.

Saturday Sep 10, 2011 #

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks CP4 Yellow

Nice quick run with Raf and Bulletdog.. See how the knee likes it...

Friday Sep 9, 2011 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Off to Albion to ride the NE singletrack, then to the farm to load up on local organic goodies. Massive load to ride home with- it's squash season.

My cold's getting evil, so kept it short.

Thursday Sep 8, 2011 #

Running (Commute) 50:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP4 Yellow

Knee not too bad on the run today.

Wednesday Sep 7, 2011 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Took the dogs out to the yard to burn off energy, while I did forest-fit.
Pushups, pull-ups on the trees, outdoor kettlebells. Next into the gym for most of workout 3, plus foothab and core.

Cycling (Commute+) 45:00 [2]

Singletrack to work with the pooch. Hmm, can still feel the knee- maybe granny gears next time on the hills.

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [1]

Easy commute back in the dark with the pooch. It's Bentblaster Light season again.

Tuesday Sep 6, 2011 #

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Knee feels better on the bike than on the run. Climbing legs seem OK.

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Easy scoot back with Bulletdog. She was thrilled to see Bazingadog when we got home, and they put on an amazing jaw-jousting and wrestling demo for V02Max and Bullseye when they came to visit.

Monday Sep 5, 2011 #

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: NB MT 101

Easy trot around the 'hood with Bulletdog to see how the knee feels after a week off. Post WT I could feel it all right despite the total rest. Oh well, no races planned for months.

Strength (Home Gym + KB) 40:00 [1]

Foothab, kneehab, workout 2 + KBs, or at least as much as the wrestling hounds would allow.
Jet-lagged and not very energetic.
