Strength (Home Gym +) 1:00:00 [2]

Foothab, kneehab and a solid workout #3 with KBs and extra core.

Running (Commute+) 55:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

First 20 minutes were romping in the snow with both hounds. I should have logged the effort to fight Brody the Bazingadog back into the house so Mocha the Bulletdog and I could run to work with some extra hills thrown in.

Snow, snow, snow!! Well, a couple of cm over slush, but it's better than rain.

I could feel my knee after- rest day tomorrow, unless I can ski.

Running (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Easy trot home on a bright snow-dusted night. Sure beats pounding rain and wind.

Tuesday Nov 29, 2011 #

Running (Commute) 28:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

Run in the mud and chilly rain with Bazingadog. Where's the @#R$% snow ?!?

Running (Commute) 29:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Cold rain and mud, but this time in the pitch dark too. Can't wait to ski to work.

Note

Well, I heard from the Movember folks.
I was the leader in donations on our team. Thanks, everyone.
It turns out that wasn't sufficient though:

"The top three fundraisers to enter our contest were actually men from other teams (we didn’t limit our contest to people on the 22 Minutes team, since many people had signed up to Movember prior to the announcement of our contest, and we didn’t want to exclude them)".

Good on them for raising lots more for a good cause.

Running (Commute) 50:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Solid run with the Bulletdog, especially on the way back home. My knee let me get up a decent pace- this is the best it's felt 2 days after a long-ish run. Not 100% but I think I'm making progress.

Sunday Nov 27, 2011 #

Strength 50:00 [1]

Foothab, kneehab and my old workout #2.

Running 30:00 [1]

Knee was a bit tender, so just an easy jog-hike with the hounds.

Running 2:20:54 intensity: (30 @2) + (45:56 @3) + (1:23:41 @4) + (10:47 @5) 22.1 km (6:23 / km) +203m 6:06 / km
ahr:160 max:185 shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

SMTO with the boys in the Don Valley. Good tour led by Bender, who put the hammer down on a few hills. I felt good and the legs started to pick up better in the last third or so.

We scored some fresh-roasted coffee beans at the farmer's market during the run and saw some electric cars charging too. How's this for a Turbo-charger?

Great brunch and coffee at Chez Bender afterwards- thanks Venus for the Strata-from-heaven!

From Attackpoint

Thanks Supe, Turbo The Birthday Boy, Pat-hetic and Bender.

Strength (Home Gym +) 1:00:00 [2]

Foothab, KB and home gym. Core and much of the kneehab was covered last night at Core/ Yoga.

Note

Movember update- 3 finalists will be picked Nov 25, then there's a Mo judging contest!

"Once an Entry is complete, the Participant will be added to the 22 Minutes group of Movember Canada. The fundraising period will be between September 15, 2011 and November 25, 2011 (the “Fundraising Period”). The Fundraising Period ends earlier than the Movember Canada Campaign. The three Participants who have raised the most money during the Fundraising Period according to Movember records as available to Producers, and who are available to attend Decision Day on a date as determined by the Producers, in their sole discretion, in accordance with the production requirements of 22 Minutes, shall advance to Decision Day (the “Finalists”)."

Decision Day

On or about November 27, 2011, the three Finalists will attend and participate in Decision Day in Toronto, Ontario or such other location as determined by the Producers at their sole discretion.

The Finalists will be judged based on the overall quality, size and look of their moustache as determined by the panel of Judges selected by the Producers and will be judged as follows:

(a) The Finalists will be presented in a group to the Judges who will give their votes in secret.

(b) Each Judge will give a score of between 5 and 10 points to each Finalist. Half points are possible.

© The points 10, 9.5 and 9 can only be given once by each Judge.

(d) The position of first must be decided clearly. In the event of equal scores, a second vote will be conducted.

Finalists may use wax, hair spray and other common hair cosmetics. Unnatural hair colour, false facial hair, hair extensions and any form of hair pins are prohibited and will result in disqualification.

For Decision Day, the Producers shall provide Finalists with airfare from any major international airport in Canada (if air travel is reasonably required), airport transfers and accommodations. All other costs shall be paid by the Finalists.

The Prize winner and one travel companion must be available to travel from any major international airport (if air travel is reasonably required) in Canada to Halifax, Nova Scotia to attend a Taping, during the regular production schedule of 22 Minutes, before April 2, 2012, on a date as determined by the Producers in its sole discretion. Airfare, airport transfers and accommodations in Halifax will be provided by the Producers. All other costs shall be paid by the winner and companion.

Cycling (Commute) 50:00 [1]

Sketchy commute in the morning- still lots of black ice. Softer and mucky on the dark ride home with Bulletdog.

Strength (Core) 20:00 [2]

Caron's dreaded class- even more frightening as she was wearing the extra- dreaded orange. Luckily it was actually easier than the last time when she tried to kill us (me especially).

Yoga 50:00 [1]

This "orange" class actually resembled my kneehab a lot, so it wasn't too bad at all.

Note

Thanks for all the help with the Movember campaign so far.
I'm still holding the lead in the "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" campaign, and hoping to be on the show if I win.

Still a lot of Movember left though, so for this final week I'll reciprocate any donations from a Mo Bro or sister.

Warning- this link also has a pic of my scary looking Mo.

Strength 30:00 [1]

Foothab, kneehab and some pullups. Feeling a bit lazy and short on time.

Running (Commute) 30:00 [2]
shoes: Icebugs red

Icebug-mandatory run to work as Bazingadog and I got pelted with falling bits of ice and slush from the melting trees.

Tuesday Nov 22, 2011 #

Running (Commute) 28:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Easy run home with Bazingadog. I could feel my knee and it was a bit sore after- this was the first run since the Thomas, which was my first hard run in a long while. It seems that the knee hurts a bit more when I push the pace.

Monday Nov 21, 2011 #

Cycling (Commute) 50:00 [2]

Easy spin to work and back. -4 in the AM, very dark in the pm. Bulletdog's loving the cool temps, and the patients who give her huge smoked bones at work.

Sunday Nov 20, 2011 #

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

OK warmup, and I went out for a few controls as a cooldown.
11 AM

Orienteering 32:24 intensity: (6 @2) + (47 @3) + (1:40 @4) + (29:51 @5) 4.64 km (6:59 / km) +55m 6:36 / km
ahr:186 max:233 shoes: Icebugs red

First Thomas of the season.
Starting out with Eugenius, Andre, Laszo and Hammer in the same handicap group meant that we ran like a pack of wolves, eventually mostly chasing the navigational rabbit that is Hammer.

Translaton- My legs were good and I could keep up with the top lads, but frankly trying to read the map at that speed meant I could only lead into a couple of easier controls, and with their accurate nav I had to basically hang on for dear life on the rest. Hammer was fast and precise (except for the final control) but at that pace I barely had time to scratch my head about going to control 1 instead of the finish. Running well above my nav ability with these guys.

I think Eugenius took it, followed by Andre, Hammer and then me.
I went out for a cooldown loop, and was *a lot* slower finding the controls when not in the wolf pack. I guess it bodes well for Team 2 1/2 MENiscuses- there won't be much towing needed for either of us.

Saturday Nov 19, 2011 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 1 + KB and core.

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs red

Operation Tired Pooch phase II. Bazingadog did his best Clydesdale impression at times, but I think I'm wearing him out.

Strength (Foothab/kneehab) 20:00 [1]

Running 1:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @3) + (30:00 @4)
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

Took both hounds for a gallop. This was Bazingadog's fastest run of this length, and he's still on leash.
We saw several groups of deer, turning him temporarily into 65lbs of muscle-and-testosterone towing machine. I'm wondering if an aluminum carabiner is strong enough?
I think I finally tired the little guy out though, although the fit Bulletdog was bouncing around after.

Cycling 35:00 [3]

Nice ride in the cold and dark rail trail to my environmental meeting.
I warmed up OK after the first few km, and at one point it was hard to see the trail from all the reflected snow blowing down, but I'm loving it.

Unfortunately the heat was off at the meeting building, so I got really chilled in my damp biking clothes, and was shivering hard when I met Bash for a ride home after yoga class.

Wednesday Nov 16, 2011 #

Strength (Home Gym +) 1:00:00 [2]

Foothab, kneehab, some core, workout 3. Still not sure how to log this, as a lot of the kneehab should be level 0 or 1 but I want to record it.

Cycling (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Ride in with Bulletdog on the singletrack.
Bazingadog was so nutzo when he saw me setting his sister up for the commute that I had to take them both out for a gallop first.

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Met some folks out in the dark looking for a Bernese mtn dog named Halifax, who wasn't lit up like Bulletdog. If anyone sees her, I have the owner's phone #.

Tuesday Nov 15, 2011 #

Cycling (Commute) 50:00 [2]

Easy commute with Bulletdog.

Monday Nov 14, 2011 #

Running (Commute) 28:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Easy jog in to work with BZDog. So far so good- my knee's a bit tender but not too bad.

Running (Commute) 28:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Easy jog home in the dark and rain, on the muddy graded trails.
Knee is a bit sore all right, but not too bad.

Orienteering race 4:40:00 [3]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

RTH with Bash and Hingo. First one in 2 years since I tore my meniscus.

I seemed to be running OK. I could feel the knee, but it wasn't bad. Able to hammer pretty well in the matrix, and tow where we could on roads, given Bash's sprained ankle.
From CP12 we leapfrogged Sean Bechtel's team of top triathletes, and an all-male masters team. Thanks to some good nav choices by Bash, we passed several teams in the last few controls.

Bechtel got us on the track finish, but they were unranked, and we managed to pull off a close Master's win.

I had lots left in the tank at the end, and can still walk now, so I'd consider this a decent comeback. Great to be racing with the team on an excellent course in great weather..
Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers of course.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Bazingadogwrestling- see Bash's log. Strong not-so-little fellow.

Note

Why should I be the onlyGoPro videographer in the house?
Bulletdog filmed this one on our hike before Brody the Bazingadog tried to eat Porkie.

Friday Nov 11, 2011 #

Strength (Lumberjack) 30:00 [2]

Out with the saw cleaning up some of the smaller trees that fell down.
I tied Bazingadog off at a safe distance, and the powerful bugger broke the S-biner on his leash in frustration. I had to actually sit on him to keep him steady until I clipped in an aluminum biner as he hauled and squirmed to get away.

Also did foot/kneehab.

Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Easy run with the hounds, in an effort to tire them out.

Wednesday Nov 9, 2011 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Even more foot/kneehab and workout 2 with KBs.

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

First lap with both hounds, then a solid hilly run to work via Charlevoix trail. Saw lots of deer today.

More firebreak work at Palgrave East- more muck!

Running (Commute) 27:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

Easy late night commute.

Tuesday Nov 8, 2011 #

Note

GoPro posted on my log for Saturday's ride with Goose.

Running (Commute) 52:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Nice and bright for the run in, but dark and drizzly for the headlamp run home.
The new firebreaks in Palgrave East make for soft mucky running.

Running 1:51:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

Bolton Fall 50-
See Bash's log for details.
Great run from the Dingle to our house.
Also includes second run from Goosenest to TA3.

GoPro was active- video to come.

Cycling 2:30:00 [3]

Nice spin around Palgrave and Albion after fueling up at THQ, which was TA1. MrBiker used a cross bike, and he's quick! My legs kinda died on the last few hills up the road.

Paddlng 1:27:00 [2]

An easy run up from TA2 (Goose/LD HQ) on the HVHT, where my legs were just on the border of cramping. There was a surprise cake stop at the roadside T/A, and I went into full-on cramp after climbing over a fence.

All good though after collapsing in a heap writhing in pain for a few minutes.

In the boat with Tammy, and we had lots of fun paddling back to the Goosenest. What an amazing day- great weather, awesome course, great friends, yummy dinner and cakes!

Saturday Nov 5, 2011 #

Strength (Home Gym +) 50:00 [2]

Full foot/kneehab, workout 1 with some forest fit and KBs, but as always core stuff was highly compromised by Bazingadog climbing all over me.

Running 20:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP6 Green

Out with both hounds, the young lad on leash to hopefully tire him out a little.

New Brooks CP shoes and Barefoot Science insoles as per Dr B.
12 PM

Cycling 1:21:35 [3] 12.51 mi (9.2 mph) +188m

Out with Goose in a bit of Palgrave and North Albion. Perfect day!
We got a bit more helmetcam GoPro too. Best viewed at 480 res.

Friday Nov 4, 2011 #

Note

1 yr followup with Dr. Bell, sports chiro to Olympians (and old guys with bad knees too, apparently)
He's pretty pleased at my progress, more than I am. Mainly pleased at my increased foot mobility, but still stuff in there stopping me from running properly there, leading to continued knee issues.
I've not been tracking with my knee properly in the kneehab/foothab, so need to work on that.
I also need to get someone to GoPro me running from behind and send him the vid for analyis.
I feel like he made some good progress beating up on me, even on my sore lower back that I didn't think was related. Too bad he's 90 minutes away.

Thursday Nov 3, 2011 #

Cycling (Commute) 20:00 [3]

Quick ride in without a pooch. Bash's dropping them off later.

Running 26:00 [2]

Run back with Bazingadog. He met one of Mocha's friends and was pretty pissed to be kept on leash, but cest la vie when you'll disappear after a deer.

Strength (Core) 20:00 [3]

Caron's class. @#%!#!!.

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Surprisingly easy after all the foothab and kneehab I've been doing.
Either that or she went easy on us after stacking all the most hated core exercises together in one huge set without a break.

Wednesday Nov 2, 2011 #

Strength 50:00 [2]

Pretty solid workout 1 + KBs and foothab. Back at 12 pull-ups for the big set.

Orienteering 45:00 [2]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Need to spend some time running on a map, so bulletdog and I went out collecting the West controls of the Palgrave-O. No compass, and alternate routes to the controls for increased difficulty. Bluebird day out here!

Running hills (Commute+) 1:00:00 [4]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Hilliest possible route to work, with some repeats on the steeper hills. Hard work, especially with a heavy commuter pack. I think I tired bulletdog out, especially given that she did Bazingadog sprint intervals first at about 40kph.

Running (Commute+) 25:00 [2]
shoes: La Sportiva Crosslite 2.0

Easy commute in the dark. Bulletdog and I were both a bit tired.
Solid week of training- first one in a while!

Tuesday Nov 1, 2011 #

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Another dark and foggy commute with Bulletdog.
My knee's feeling pretty good, even after pushing it a bit yesterday :)

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Quick spin back with Bulletdog.
