Running intervals 30:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Coach Bash greenlighted me for 30 min of run/walk. Leg was ok at a moderate pace, but I could feel it if I opened it up. The big boy was quite tolerant of my run 1 walk 1 pace.
3 PM

Cycling 1:32:17 [3] 15.93 km (10.4 kph) +207m

Out with Browner and Bash for a tour of Palgrave singletrack.
I finally felt a bit healthier, and had a really good ride. Leg was fine for biking this time, and conditions were A+. So great to actually do something at a bit higher effort.

The new 'bent climbs nicely and seems better on dicey uphill roots, but there were 3 hairpins I couldn't squeeze it around, which I have rode cleanly once or twice on the other bike. (on video)

4 dogs had a fine time too before the ride as our guys gave swimming lessons.

Running intervals 20:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

1 min walk, -1 min run. Acutal run, not shuffle! Feeling a bit less tight.
12 PM

Cycling (Arm bike) 41:49 [3] 12.69 km (18.2 kph) +58m

Took the arm bike out for a crank around Ross Lord park paved trails. Some solid climbs had me working.

Strength 30:00 [2]
(sick)

Still feeling nasty, trying not to get bronchitis.
Did some easy strength stuff and a short test run.
Leg is still restricted on forward drive, but seems to be improving finally.
Also not as painful when Thumbs-of-Death had a go at it.

Paddlng 25:00 [2]

Light spin on the erg- wasn't up to biking health-wise.

Wednesday Apr 27, 2016 #

Cycling 45:00 [3]
(sick)

Note- Back from a week in Yellowknife. Other than a bit of biking, skating and snowshoeing with my brother's kids, a full rest week. (No skiing- snow had melted and refrozen into ice) Despite that, the cold's moved to my sinuses and my leg's still not great.

Fantastic to get out with the dogs on the bike- it's spring here! Leg's OK to bike. Lungs- we'll see.

10 AM

Cycling 11:47 [1] 2.66 km (13.5 kph) +8m

Biked with the little dude to his school. Pretty solid commute for a 7 year old.

4 PM

Snowshoeing 1:15:52 [0] 2.88 km (26:21 / km) +16m 25:37 / km

Hike with my nephew Leo to the ice caves.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Nice spin on yet another perfect day on the Charlevoix trails with AD. Trails are in great shape, Kodiak's riding really well, and AD is a flyer. I love riding with the big guy and his harness, but it's sure easier with AD off-leash.

Strength 45:00 [2]

Workout 1 + rehab.

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

Feeling a little better, and got the bike dialed in a bit more. Gorgeous day for a ride, and the big boy felt the need for speed a bit. I let a curious rider we caught try the Kodiak, but Brody freaked, clearly saying "I run with that bike".

We also met Mr Porkie, sitting right in the middle of the short singletrack from the conservation area to Thinker's Hill. Luckily the big guy was no trouble as we encouraged porkie to climb a tree. Big change from his first encounter 4 years ago when I couldn't drag him off one and had to carry him out.

Cycling 55:00 [1]
(sick)

Easy commute with the big guy. We had to detour around some recently thawed sections on the way there, but they were visibly drier on the return trip.

Used the kodiak with the big fat rear tire. Slight rubbing which I'll fix next time I change wheels, otherwise good on soft ground.

Cycling (Arm bike) 1:25:00 intensity: (42:00 @2) + (43:00 @3) 19.74 km (13.9 kph) +65m
(sick)

Veinbuster and I took turns on the arm-bike and his greenspeed trike on the paved paths in Newmarket. We let a curious cyclist take a turn- and of course he knows Bash. Good hamstring-and-mancold- friendly workout.

So great to get out on a perfect day, and the trails were really interesting and longer than I expectd. VB showed me some of the old locks from when there was a canal from Simcoe. Fun outing and full body workout.

Cycling 1:46:04 [3] 19.74 km (11.2 kph) +65m

12 PM

Cycling 1:33:14 [3] 35.07 km (22.6 kph) +34m
(sick)

Slugged down some cold meds and rode to Inglewood and back with Goose and Coach LD on a perfect summer day. Leg was OK if LD kept it a bit dialed back.

Friday Apr 15, 2016 #

Cycling 20:00 [2]
(sick)

Easy spin with the big boy to test out the new mods to the Kodiak.

Wednesday Apr 13, 2016 #

Hiking 50:00 [0]
(sick) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Pole hike in with AD. Physio wants me to stop even the shuffle that Thumbs-of-Death suggested.

Also got a full on man-cold.

Hiking (Hike/jog with poles) 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: La Sportiva Crossover GTX

(80 min) Lumpy ice commute with the big boy. He was in a helpful mood so we made good time.

Cycling 30:00 [2]

Easy spin + rehab

Monday Apr 11, 2016 #

Hiking (hike / jog) 40:00 [1]
shoes: La Sportiva Crossover GTX

Another slushy easy peasy pole hike/jog in the rain with AD. Biking felt a lot better on my leg than jogging, but the trails will turn to muck this afternoon.

Hiking 30:00 [1]
shoes: La Sportiva Crossover GTX

(50 min) Much warmer pole-hike home in the slush and pouring rain.h

Sunday Apr 10, 2016 #

Running 1:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (15:00 @2) + (15:00 @3)
shoes: La Sportiva Crossover GTX

Assorted running around in the woods chasing racers with GoPros. I got to do the MC2 hill about 10 times. That wasn't too bad, but running around in our part of palgrave I had to walk a fair bit, with the odd burst to film a team.
Leg certainly felt it- no way I could have raced. It should be better than this by now after all the resting.:(

I had a battery issue with our new camera, so I had to relay it back to the car for charging between bursts of activity.

Saturday Apr 9, 2016 #

1 PM

Cycling 1:05:27 [2] 17.77 km (16.3 kph) +30m

Ride down the rail trail- very crisp headwind on the way back.
Some sections were bone dry, others soft or snow-covered.

Friday Apr 8, 2016 #

Strength 30:00 [2]

Spin with left foot unclipped.

Paddlng (Erg) 20:00 [2]

Strength 40:00 [2]

Workout 1, rehab.

Thursday Apr 7, 2016 #

Running (Hike/jog) 1:20:00 [1]
shoes: La Sportiva Crossover GTX

Pole jog/hike in the rain and deep slush with the big boy. Rain let up on the return trip at least.

Wednesday Apr 6, 2016 #

Hiking (Pole hike/jog) 45:00 [1]
shoes: La Sportiva Crossover GTX

Back on the spikes- new snow but rain forecast for the return trip.
Mostly hiking with AD and a little light jog on the flats.

Note

Had an appt with PG the physio.
He thinks it's a pulled hamstring, along with upper glute and piriformis problems that probably started it out. I may have overextended at boot camp in Jan. He thinks it will restrict me for 5 weeks total (2.5 more) and I should be fine for racing in June. Not too much running, but all the biking I want *without* clipping in on the left side.

XC Skiing 1:00:00 [2]

-15c, with nice fast tracks to work- in April! The big boy loved it.
A lot more sparse on the way home- I had to carry my skis across bare fields in the open areas. More snow forecast!

Monday Apr 4, 2016 #

XC Skiing 1:00:00 [2]

Wow, some of the best powder of the year! Easy ski to work with a sedate Bzdog. Open areas were getting sparse on the way home, but it's still excellent. My bindings froze shut so I had to ski into the house and get out of the boots.

Sunday Apr 3, 2016 #

Running (Run/hike) 30:00 [2]

Pole run assisted by the big boy, and accompanied by Goose in the snow-covered woods.

Saturday Apr 2, 2016 #

9 AM

Running 1:05:58 [3] 7.94 km (8:19 / km) +196m 7:24 / km
(injured)

Orienteering practice with Gally, DD and Storm in Albion. First run over 1km and on hills since injury.
I was barely able to keep up on a practice run, so I pulled the plug after an hour. Still enjoyed being out on a nice day.

Despite local knowledge, I'll have to bail on GRR.
1 PM

Cycling (Arm bike) 28:11 [3] 7.06 km (15.0 kph) +4m

Went to Newmarket to pick up the repaired Kodiak frame from Veinbuster (who looks tanned and fit) and we tried out the arm bike. So good to be blasting around at what feels deceptively fast.

Friday Apr 1, 2016 #

Strength 1:00:00 [1]

Session with Coach Jeff. I had to skip some exercises due to my gimpy leg. A lot of challenging balance things involving jumping on an upside-down bosu backwards etc.

Cycling 20:00 [1]

Easy peasy spin.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Workout 1.

Note: saw Thumbs-of-death for a pretty brutal session on my hamstring and glute, but he made some progress.
