Running 20:00 [2]

(35 min) Short loop with the big boy.
11 AM

Running hills 2:12:49 [3] 18.75 km (7:05 / km) +740m 5:55 / km
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Quest for Hills with the intrepid Adventuredog. Dicey forecast so I wanted something that kept me close to the car. We did a modified version of Bash's Coolihans out-and-backs with extra rim-to-rim in the Dingle. Felt good on the uphills, and hamstring was sore but not terrible.
Rain and thunderstorms held off.

Running 30:00 [1]

Hike/run with both dogs. Crazy as always at first. Logan the Adventuredog just about got a mouthful of Fabio the Turkey's tail feathers.
11 AM

Paddlng 1:30:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (1:15:00 @3) 9.71 km (6.5 kph)

Paddle with Bash around Island Lake. Goose joined us ln his new fast-but-tippy surfski, and even he ended up playing duck, duck Goose at the start in cross winds. Good thing he wore a wetsuit.
Water was high enough to explore the Eastern wetlands.
We went for therapeutic grilled cheese and shortbread after.
4 PM

Cycling 1:24:25 [3] 14.43 km (10.3 kph) +127m

I needed to stop by Caledon Hills Cycling, so I rode in that area. I had to avoid the Inglewood trails as they are still wet, so rode closer to Belfountain, and explored some new singletrack. I still had some time for a short outing on the quarry road allowance. Darn, had to skip the Grange hill as I didn't have my road riding visibilty gear.
There was a lot of car traffic on the hill actually.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Full tour of Palgrave East single and doubletrack. Dried up nicely since the heavy rain. Perfect condtions, frogs are peeping and piping up a storm.

The formerly slow and rooty SE corner has been fixed up- it's got berms and bumps now with more flow.

Thursday Apr 27, 2017 #

Cycling 25:00 [2]

Bike to work with the big boy on a perfect clear morning. All hell broke loose when I would have ridden home so we got a ride.

Strength (Core) 20:00 [3]

Caron's core class.

Yoga 55:00 [1]

I was disappointed by how nasty much of this was for my left hamstring. I though it was improving with all the rehab and less running, but it's about as stretchy as a bike chain. I even cheated on a lot of the stuff but it still hurt.

Note- not as bad the next day as I feared. Will try and get back to Thumbs of Death.

Wednesday Apr 26, 2017 #

Paddlng 30:00 [2]

Erg. Mix of kayak and canoe technique.

Strength 50:00 [2]

Workout 1 and a lot of rehab.

Running 50:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

2-dog jog in Palgrave East. The beast were animals for the first km or so but settled in, and needed a dip in the pond.

Tuesday Apr 25, 2017 #

Cycling 50:00 [2]

Ride in with the big boy. Fast venison-inspired start.

Monday Apr 24, 2017 #

Cycling 1:05:00 [3]

To work via singletrack and back with some extras in Palgrave West. AD was a little tired today- not running with the bike as fast as usual. He's back in his orange vest as turkey hunting season starts soon.

Sunday Apr 23, 2017 #

Paddlng (Erg) 30:00 [2]

Also did hamstring-hab.
1 PM

Cycling 1:45:00 [3] 23.6 km (13.5 kph) +341m

Nice ride through Palgrave East and Albion NE and NW with Bash, Storm and Browner. Perfect spring day, and trails are A+.

We ran and swam all 4 dogs first.

9 AM

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Nice morning loop with dogs. Several trees down on the Charleviox trail.
12 PM

Cycling 2:03:15 [3] 20.25 km (9.9 kph) +294m

Up to Dufferin Forest- I had the Trailforks map which only has a few trails, and the online map with more trails but less detail and no GPS.

I had a great time exploring singletrack and trying to coordinate the maps, AR-style. In Simcoe Forest East of Dufferin the trails were leaf-covered with some downed trees, and I didn't see a soul for about 90 miin.

Eventually I hit trails on the App and found my way back.
Perfect spring day, trails bone dry. I rode almost every meter of singletrack.

There are still tons of doubletrack trails I didn't ride.
I'd brought lots of tools and expected to be tinkering with suspension, but the bike was perfect.

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Solid run with the Bazingadog around DV and Earl Bales. He got to be Lord of the Leash-free park too.

Left leg still tight, but otherwise feeling good.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Hilly spin around the Wheelie's trails to test out new shock mods. Working well!

Met 2 groups of turkeys and 2 groups of deer, a bunny, a pileated woodpecker and 4 different dogs including Crash's gang.

Monday Apr 17, 2017 #

Note

Bah- beautiful day but I need to drive to the city after work so no ride or run in.

GRR with Escondido and Matt.
First time racing with these guys.

Started in a cool Scout camp, hill relay then off to get various optional CPs as well as 16 main ones. We aimed to clear the course, which made planing a bit easier.

WT took off fast. We leapfrogged MBR up to the E=MC2 section but they left us there. We did see Ripkin AR all race pretty much.

Some of the options were pretty technical, like the Slopestyle section of side-hilling a long steep mucky ravine. Bruce Trail into the Bermuda Triangle was deep muck too.

Our new team worked well, and I was able to contribute some nav. We had a bit of a bobble in the BT, and one 10 minute group brain-fart at 12. The dogbone section ate up a fair bit of time, and by the time we got to the final matrix we just didn't have enough left so we skipped it. If we had been cleaner earlier we would just have been able to clear the course.

We ended up 3rd male, not surprisingly behind WT and MBR. Ripkin also cleared the course and won co-ed.
ArthurD's team won female.

Great to race with these guys. Escondido is solid on the map, cool under
pressure and can really suck it up. Matt was cheerful throughout, and fast.

Interesting, technical course. Winning time was around 4 hrs, so it was a long one. Thanks to the course setters and volunteers for another good race.

Strength (Lumberjack) 1:00:00 [3]

(2 hrs)

Went out and cleared the trail old-school with saw and hammer. Most of the trees were willows and such so pretty easy cutting, but one 30cm log was oak I think, and took a ton of work.

Thursday Apr 13, 2017 #

Cycling 1:05:00 [3]

Ride in with AD. Lots of bikewhacking around fallen trees in thick bush sections of the trail. We took a longer route home with easier fallen trees in open forest, but there is no clear commute right now.

Wednesday Apr 12, 2017 #

Cycling (Trainer) 30:00 [3]

Paddlng (Erg) 30:00 [2]

Mix of kayak and canoe.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Part of workout 1 + all the rehab I could fit in.

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Out with the big boy. We did some steep and deep bushwhack hills.

Note- left leg still tight after 2 days off.

Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Night run home.

Sunday Apr 9, 2017 #

11 AM

Running 1:30:25 [3] 12.21 km (7:24 / km) +391m 6:23 / km

Out with AD South from the 5th line parking lot, for max hills/km. The south bit North of 9 is a boggy mess of deadfall after the storm, but the rest was pretty good.

Note- left leg's still draggy. Doesn't extend well.

Logan the Adventuredog still had lots of oomph for a 7-dog run/swim after.

Saturday Apr 8, 2017 #

Running 45:00 [3]

Post paddle outing with the deer-crazed dogs hauling me through the bush off and on trail. Met Crash's gang too.
10 AM

Paddlng 2:50:00 [3] 16.45 km (5.8 kph)

(3:50)

Minnesing Swamp adventure with Goose, Coach LD and a gaggle of friends. We did the car shuttle then headed up from the put-in near Snow Valley.

We rafted up to hear about the area from Guide Goose.

The water was super-high, making it more like a lake. We saw some Buffleheads, Tundra Swans, muskrat, and even saw the bald eagle as we went by the nest.

There was still snow on the trees, but it warmed up.
We had lunch tied up to a tree, as the swamp was more like a lake. We could only tell when we hit the Nottawasaga river when the water colour changed from Americano to Cafe au Lait. Last time we had to climb an embankment.

A lot of our paddling was through flooded forest and fields.

Thanks to Goose the guide for organizing the adventure, and for the mighty LD powering away in the bow of my boat.

XC Skiing 20:00 [2]

Out with both dogs for a surprise ski. Too gusty to ski in the woods much, so we mostly did loops of the yard. I managed to tear the sole partially off my combi boot. :(

Cycling (Trainer) 50:00 [2]

Wednesday Apr 5, 2017 #

Paddlng (erg) 30:00 [3]

spin on the erg- kayak and canoe.

Strength 40:00 [2]

Home gym workout 1 + rehab.

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Sense Ultra SG

Out with AD through the Charlevoix trails and some extra bushwhack hills.
We stayed off the soggy main doubletrack. Sunny day, frogs peeping and piping!

Running 28:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Sense Ultra SG

Night run home

Tuesday Apr 4, 2017 #

Running 26:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Razor

Hard to get out the door into the pouring rain and mud in gloomy fog, but the big guy was keen. I was tempted to stay on the couch in front of the fire with my coffee.

Running 31:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Razor

Much drier run home.

Monday Apr 3, 2017 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Dry enough to ride to work with AD using some of my bypasses for the last bits of ice thawing into mud. Rollercoaster back.

Sunday Apr 2, 2017 #

Cycling 25:00 [3]

Took the dogs for a quick blast. They met the Weimeraner boys again.
Trails are drying up, and I could avoid the mushy bits.
10 AM

Running 1:50:00 [3] 16.1 km (6:50 / km) +192m 6:27 / km
shoes: Salomon Sense Ultra SG

HAFTA run with Bash, Browner, Scout and Contour. I tried to take Scout for a run but she put the brakes on a couple of km after we separated from the ladies. Dogs were both happier when the pack was together. I took Contour for the second half, with Scout trotting beside off leash.

Spring is springing, peepers peeping! Ran in shorts.

Cycling 1:33:50 [2] 31.33 km (20.0 kph) +54m

Humber Trail with Bash, Goose and LD. The little omega 'bent is quick and so comfy on pavement. Nice ride down to the waterfront all the way from Clareville Dam. Chilly at first, but sunny at the end. Good destination ride boulangerie lunch, then back just in time for them to meet T-man returning from his outing.

Cycling 1:35:26 [2] 30.32 km (19.1 kph) +159m
