Cycling (Commute) 50:00 [2]

Yes! Out of the van and back on the bike! Had to detour around massive regrading of the former fields of my commute.

Strength (Link +) 1:00:00 [2]
(injured)

As much of the link workout as my knee, shoulder and neck would allow, plus some kneehab.

Tuesday Oct 30, 2007 #

Note
(injured)

Threw my neck out yesterday while drying my hair with a towel, of all things.
Great, yet another old injury back to haunt me.

Hiking (Commute) 35:00 [1]

Hiked home from work with trekking poles.
I even did an old-man jog on about 1km of road, and it wasn't too bad. So-o-o great to be commuting under my own steam again and leaving the Bullfrog van behind.

Note
(injured)

Luckily, the lovely LeAnimal and the even lovelier Thumbs-of Death both had appointments today and worked on my neck, so it was tolerable.

Monday Oct 29, 2007 #

Note

Had my appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon today.
See Bash's log. Bottom line- No permanent damage, no surgery needed but it could be a fairly long recovery, and the winter race is probably out.

I got the green light to do moderate exercise on it again, as long as it doesn't hurt. Woo-hoo!

Cycling (Trainer) 30:00 [2]

Started watching the 00 TDF

Sunday Oct 28, 2007 #

Strength (Home gym + Core) 1:30:00 [2]

Workout #1 + most of the Core workout that doesn't involve lateral force on my broken leg.

Saturday Oct 27, 2007 #

Note

We *finally* got the MRI report. It got misplaced somehow from Buffalo.
The good news-looks like my meniscus is fine.
The not so good- Grade 2-3 tear of Medial Collateral Ligament with some damage to the Patellar Retinaculum.
The surprising news- 2cm fracture in the lateral condyle!

Well, good thing I haven't been running on it. No wonder I can't do any hamstring curls past a certain point. We'll see what the surgeon says Monday.

Cycling (Trainer) 30:00 [2]

Watched the final TT and end of TDF 99.

Friday Oct 26, 2007 #

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #3. Still light on the left shoulder.

Cycling (Trainer) 50:00 [2]

Watched the Tour go over the Pyrenees.

Wednesday Oct 24, 2007 #

Cycling (Trainer) 40:00 [2]

Trainer while watching Alp D'Huez in the 99 TDF.
I'd rather be riding the trails, but still no MRI result so this is instead of kneehab...

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #2. Left shoulder's still a wuss.

Strength (Misc) 1:00 [3]

A new activity- fence lifting. My nice new wooden fence at the office was rammed down by a girl on her first day of driving, and we had to heave it out of our new drive-through garden. She hit the gas instead of the brake. Glad it wasn't a busy mall parking lot with a lot of pedestrians, or a crosswalk.

Sunday Oct 21, 2007 #

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #1. The shoulder's a bit better. Little sore from Friday's chin-athon.
No Kneehab.

Strength (Core) 35:00 [2]

Hard Core DVD minus anything with lateral leg stress.

Cycling (Trainer) 40:00 [2]

Easy high RPM spin while watching the '99 TDF stage 8

Saturday Oct 20, 2007 #

Cycling 30:00 [0]

Super-easy spin riding beside Bash as she ran with Bulletdog (Logged 1/2)

Misc (Lumberjack (3hrs)) 1:00:00 [2]

Loaded, hauled and heaved the final 1200kg or so of logs. Also had to split quite a few. Also moved and replanted some trees from the trail.

Friday Oct 19, 2007 #

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #3. Had to go very easy on any cable press/ fly exercises due to my left shoulder.

Replaced close grip cable pulldowns with 50 chin-ups in 7 minutes ala Zoolander. Geez, I used to be able to do about twice that.

Note: Skipped the Kneehab as I'm still in MRI Limbo.

Strength (Lumberjack) 1:00:00 [1]

Tossed 1200kg of logs into the wagon, hauled them to the shed and stacked them up. At least it doesn't bug my knee or shoulder.

Cycling (Trainer) 40:00 [1]

Got clearance from LeAnimal for some spinning.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2007 #

Note

Bash got a bit of the preliminary MRI report from the doc's office. Sounds like they might have found some decent damage, and Bash has prescribed a cautionary ban on biking or hiking until we get the full report.

Sunday Oct 14, 2007 #

Cycling 40:00 [2]

Rail Trail with Bash. (Didn't log the return trip.)

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 1 + Kneehab

Saturday Oct 13, 2007 #

Note

MRI today.

Friday Oct 12, 2007 #

Strength (kneehab + core) 40:00 [2]

Thursday Oct 11, 2007 #

Note

Finally had my appointment with the allergist, 3 months after the hornet sting incident. About 50 tests. Oddly enough, I'm not allergic to *anything*. I must have just had too much venom in me at the time, but it looks like my man-purse with epi-pen can stay home now except for when I'm deep in the bush.

Cycling (Commute +) 50:00 [2]

Took a slightly longer route home as the graders are eating up my existing trail again. Grrrr.

Tuesday Oct 9, 2007 #

Cycling (Commute) 22:00 [3]

Idiot. Weather wasn't bad when I headed out, and forecast was "A few showers ending this afternoon then clearing. Risk of a thunderstorm. High 20."

10 minutes from work the sky opened up and we got absolutely drenched.
Heard thunder as we biked along the sidewalk to work too. Visibility in my rx glasses was lousy too.

Cycling (Commute) 20:00 [2]

Actually took me almost an hour. My front deraillerur got all out of whack some how, and it's a b*tch to field-adjust on the new bike- no barrel adjuster.

Monday Oct 8, 2007 #

Paddlng 2:00:00 [2]

Paddling with Bash from Arowhon to Gibraltar Rock where Bash and I got married. We had to hover a bit to wait for the folks to leave the site. Also had a nice paddle around Joe Lake.

Sunday Oct 7, 2007 #

Paddlng 2:30:00 [2]

Paddled with Bash up the river from Little Joe Lake to Baby Joe Lake, to burnt Island Lake and back.
On the way we demo'ed the T-rescue as we fished out a couple of newbie paddlers, and saved their drenched cell phones, iPods, digital cameras, etc.

On Burnt Island lake we found the remains of Camp Minising, and an old cart trail that used to go to what is now the Minissing bike/ski trail.
Bash's intrigued- some serious exploration potential and winter loops possible.

BI Lake was absolutely phenomenal, colour-wise.

Saturday Oct 6, 2007 #

Hiking 2:00:00 [1]

Hiked from Arowhon Pines in Algonquin park up to Lost Joe Lake and the dam at Baby Joe, in fantastic fall colours. I used 2 ski poles and my knee wasn't too bad.

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]
(injured)

Biked the "Old Railway" bike trail in Algonquin. Flat but spectacular and knee friendly.

Thursday Oct 4, 2007 #

Cycling (Commute) 20:00 [3]

Quick ride in- climbing seems a bit easier.

OK, I got the time fixed. 20 piddly minutes.

Wednesday Oct 3, 2007 #

Strength (Home gym + kneehab) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #2 + kneehab.
I had to go easy on the left shoulder again. No drywall damage from wall squats- I guess a balance ball's better than FB's basketball. Also did hamstring bridges on the ball (1-leg) and floor.

Tuesday Oct 2, 2007 #

Cycling (Commute) 22:00 [3]
(injured)

Ride in on the Omega with Bulletdog, on a rainy, muddy morning.

Orienteering 45:00 [1]
(injured)

(Only logged 1/2) Caledon Navigators training night with Bash, 'Goose and Bulletdog.
They were nice enough to plod along at my pace, so it was a walking map-detail outing. Knee wasn't bad with a ski pole, as long as I don't run.
