Assorted trail work on the Palgrave area with Steve from TRCA and other Trail Captains.
We also took Steve for a hike to peruse some of the closed trails, and there's a glimmer of hope that a decent loop will re-open in the North end.

Peak 2 Peak.
Ran a pretty good race, except for a multiple mess-up from 5-6.
After walk-the-line I was running with Sudden and Griz, when I spotted 8 ahead. Normally following is bad etiquette, but just as I was going to punch 8 Sudden popped out and ran off with the control, with me in pursuit. Turns out he and Griz were in the right spot and the control wasn't, so they moved it.
Mostly level 3 except from end of WtL to 10 with the big dogs.

Perfect day, great turnout, and we carpooled in the Goosemobile, which gets us special parking at MEC afterwards.

Link workout. I added some speed to the reps, making them jump-squats to toes etc. Also sets of 30 push-ups on the balance board, and some chins, including 5 reps with 30 lbs extra.

Nice video of 46 year old Maria Parker setting the 12 hour female cycling record using a FWD recumbent. 241 miles despite rain and a crash.

In other cycling news, 13 unfaired recumbent records were broken on an indoor track this weekend. The world hour record for an unfaired recumbent is now up to 52.074 km by an amateur, Aurélien Bonneteau, faster than Obree's 1993 hour record. Obree, Moser and Boardman have all gone even faster on special stretched-out TT bikes, which is a tribute to some serious engine power- Boardman's record is 56.375kph.

LD Brick today.
Rode Albion with Coach LD, who asked me not to push the pace.

Fat chance- after yesterday I was just keeping up to the powerhouse.
We gave priority to the gorgeous hardwood trails- perfect weather and fall colours abound!

XC Skiing (Rollerskis- Skate) 30:00 [2]

Part 2 of the brick- over to the Palgrave School parking lot for the first time on roller skis. Not bad without poles, as long as I remember not to cross my "skis" on turns. Once we added the poles- Whee, Woo-Hoo, just flying along! Must do this more!

It should be a great way to re-discover my faults and clean up the technique a bit.

Workout #3. Sets of 8 chin-ups no problem, but could only get 6 out with 25lbs extra. Still, after a long hiatus it's nice to be working a bit harder on strength.

Great run with Goose and Bulletdog through Glen Haffy, North through the super-hilly bit and past the Tai Chi centre to the new bits of trail. Perfect weather, decent pace, excellent fall colours.

Ride down to Albion for the CN training night

(Just under 90 minutes)
CN Training night. I paired up with GG, and let him do most of the nav ( until it got dark and time ran short). Exercise was to talk through the nav with your partner and focus on attack points for adventure-run style CPs. GG did well, picking up stuff fast, and we deliberately tried not to just use local knowledge. We worked on thumbing and orienting the map at all times, using backstops and attack points. Some quick running, a lot of stopping and re-orienting, but we got them all.

To the Shed in Inglewood for coffee with Bash. We picked up Knobless on the way, who lead us via road up the dreaded Grange hill, along with a procession of cars gawking at the colours. They were all apparently heading for the Shed, as the line up was out the door. Met Gorgeous + 4 dogs and Dave Corner there too.

Back via quieter roads, as the trail's a mess right now.

Fairly stretchy session, and a bit different from the usual. Why the dude needs to wear 3/4 length jeans over white yoga pants and no shirt while he's just walking around the class talking is beyond me. I note we don't have any DVDs of female yoga instructors showing a lot of skin.

Light Geek Update-
The official new best AA headlamp for AR's finally out.
25% brighter than an upgraded Apex, and almost twice as bright on Turbo mode. Probably more durable and longer burning too, but I haven't see one yet.

Incidentally, the best top-end LEDs just got 20% more efficient and smaller, so you can do the math regarding the latest generation super AR bike lights now.

Note- I borrowed Bash's Forerunner, but I suspect it's under-reading in twisty trails under heavy leaves as the speed on the straights read significantly higher, but I'm sure it wasn't much.

It's time again for Caron's torture-fest. I was tired after a hard day and my neck's still sore, but glad Bash talked me into it.

Caron's yoga class. The balancing work I've been doing helped, but my neck was sore in some poses. As always, my hamstring flexibility's no worse (or better) after 3 months off than it was after doing yoga regularly.
