XC Skiing 1:50:00 [3]

Out with Knobless and Bash at Highlands for a full tour and extra loops. Met Goose and LD leading what looked like ski ballet with a busload of kids.
I was waxed a touch sticky- perfect in the icy tracks but slow in the better snow. At least I could climb like spiderman.

Strength (Home Gym) 40:00 [1]

A careful and light workout 1. My rib wasn't too bad for most exercises, but shoulder press wasn't great, and the core work is still out.

Snowshoeing 30:00 [1]

New Year's Eve moonlight snowshoe with Goose, Coach LD, Slowrunner and Bash. Full moon, not a breath of wind.

What a great way to ring in the new year, followed by fondue and Canadian Trivial Pursuit.

Ahh, -18 with 2cm of fresh powder over a concrete base. I'd have to call this better than borderline, but my crustbuster skis didn't have much grip. Still great, but I should have tried skate skis.

XC Skiing (Commte +) 45:00 [3]

I upped the grip for the way home. Saw some familiar snowshoe tracks, and found Scooby then Rocky out racing my contours-only course.
I also saw a lot of Bash and VO2max skate tracks, but with my grippy wax I couldn't skate along. Actually made it home before dark!

Quest for snow lead to Highlands, and skiing was actually quite good. Skis were quick and rib and knee held up well except on one slo-mo spill where I bent the leg more than 90 degrees. Must work on the leg brace to lock it out.

I had to herringbone up from the lower fields a bit, and the knee doesn't like that, so I suspect skate is still out.

Very borderline conditions- 2 cm of very light snow over lumpy ice crust.
So what, it's still skiing! Bulletdog's back to her usual speed.

Hiked home from work with 13.5 year old T-dog. She can't do it in the heat any more, but we figured she's up for a winter commute, and she hiked along valiantly.

I think we tired out Bulletdog yesterday- she just trotted behind me today. Wow!
Knee's a bit sore from the weekend, but tolerable.

Slower run home- bulletdog set the pace.

Out with Bash & bulletdog, clambering up the steepest biggest hills we could find at the Dingle, on the steepest bits of Leanimal's snowy Thomass course.

Time to test out the various defective body parts on some real snow.
Out at Highlands with Phats, Bash, Tiny and Hillflyer. I actually felt good and skied OK for 7 weeks off training. The rib hurt most on steep uphills or if I really put the hammer down, but it was bearable, and so-o-o worth it just to be out. Highlight was catching Almageddon and passing him on uphills, but he lost me with his superior glide (and skill) on the gradual downhills.

Knee and rib both sore afterwards, but I'll take it!

I seem to have done something to a right rib lifting the injured hound into the car in the cramped space in the garage on Monday.
Most of today's workout had to be abandoned or severely lightened as the rib hurt- now that my knee's 75% better.
Not exactly inspired to train now.

First ski of the year. Borderline conditions and recovering knee, so I took it very easy. Had to abort when my rib hurt.

Short run- part way to work I noticed Bulletdog was lagging, rather than running circles around me like a... bulletdog. She seemed to be favouring one front leg, so we turned it around and I drove to work.

Short, dark and drizzly run on the HVT with Rocky and Scooby. Oh, the peer pressure! I borrowed Lee's Ayups for driver-blinding light.

Knee- not bad. Trivial pursuit after- the guys got destroyed by the girls. Birthday cake for Leanimal and Scooby- outstanding!

CN contours-only training went well- everyone showed up in the freezing rain!
I got about 30 seconds of strength doing pushups with Scooby standing on my shoulders, but that's it for the last 3 days.

Had to re-set some controls that Bash found too hard. Lovely orienteering in the slushy woods with rain pelting down- my sharpie could hardly label the controls. We'd planned to finish the course but it was too windy and snowy out- risk of falling trees, so I only did a few. Hard work running in the snow, and I'm in pathetic shape.

Took a slightly longer route home in the dark, wind and snow and put out a couple more controls. Actually easier navigating than it was this morning in the light.

Freezing cold, howling winds, pitch dark, slow running in crust- I love it!

Thomass Rattlesnake- both sprint and second race, time approx.

Nice course by Tiny. I was able to jog along slowly for most of it and deliberately took more roads. I had to really watch it in the bush where my knee hurt a bit, and favoured my good leg. Mid-pack finish but I'll take it (as opposed to sitting on the couch.) See how I feel tomorrow.

I seem to have hit the ceiling on the weights.

Easy jog with the hounds. Got T-dog jogging!
The knee's not bad. Think I'll try the Thomass tomorrow, even if I walk it.

Woo hoo! Yee-haw! Finally got out on the trails on the bike, to test out the new carbon seat. Grannygeared it up the hills and took it easy, but the knee was OK. I've got to get video of Bulletdog flying along at 30KPH through the deep weeds.

I really missed biking on trails.

First light jog in a month. I'll see how the knee feels tomorrow, but it wasn't too bad today.

A bit more set-up for the training session, and checking some different approaches on the way to work.

Bulletdog went out the door like an overstretched slingshot.
