Hiking 1:00:00 [1]

A full day of walking around Edinburgh. See Bash's log for pics.
Nice hike up Arthur's Seat to start things off. Weather is as advertised- some sun, some wind, some rain. Food and coffee far better than advertised so far.

Thursday May 27, 2010 #

Note

I was hoping to get on a team for the 24hr at Albion since my biking's good and running's not, but now I have my MRI moved up to that day.

Running (Commute) 24:00 [3]
shoes: Vibram FF Trek

Barefoot run to work.

Wednesday May 26, 2010 #

Cycling 2:20:00 [4]

Fast and fantastic early morning ride down to Albion and around everything then home. Had the place to myself. Perfect spring ride- best cycling season ever!

Strength (Home Gym) 40:00 [2]

Most of workout 3 and leg strength too.

Tuesday May 25, 2010 #

Cycling (Commute +) 1:15:00 [3]

Too hot for dogs, so I did a bit extra in Palgrave East and West on the Omega.

Monday May 24, 2010 #

Strength (Home Gym ) 1:20:00 [2]

Workout 2 + core & leg strength

Sunday May 23, 2010 #

Running hills (Barefoot) 34:00 [3]
shoes: Vibram FF Trek

Nice hilly run around Palgrave West. Gradually working up barefoot distance.
Good run, except for needing to keep taking dandelions out from between my toes.

Cycling 3:45:00 intensity: (45:00 @1) + (2:45:00 @3) + (15:00 @4)

Great ride down to Inglewood with Bash, then picked up Knobless for the ride up the Grange to Belfountain and the Shed's iced lattes, then the rough route back to Inglewood, where we met Slowrunner for part of the ride back.

Friday May 21, 2010 #

Cycling 1:40:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @1) + (40:00 @3)

Nice easy tour down to Albion and around with Bash. Spring birds and foliage at their peak, and trails are perfect. Bash got lots of pics- I hope some of the ones I took of her come out OK.

I think all the not-running is helping my biking- I put the hammer down on a few of the longer hills in bigger rings, and my speed's up on the climbs I usually measure.

Strength (Home Gym +) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #1 + leg stuff.

Thursday May 20, 2010 #

Cycling (Commute +) 1:25:00 [3]

To work with the Bulletdog, who got a ride home with Bash, then the scenic route all around Palgrave East. Some traffic out there- I caught a very surprised group of riders on the most technical part of Salty Stephen singletrack. I guess they're not used to being passed by a recumbent with a big commuting load.

Wednesday May 19, 2010 #

Cycling (Commute +) 30:00 [3]

Singletrack route to work. Pre-swam the Bulletdog.

Running (Commute) 28:00 [2]
shoes: Vibram FF Trek

Too dark to bike home with the pooch, so I ran a Tiptoe Through The Tulips in my FF Treks. I'm slow in them, but hopefully easy on the knee.

Tuesday May 18, 2010 #

Cycling (Commute) 20:00 [2]

Cycling (Commute +) 45:00 [3]

Long way home via red dog and pond to cool off the Bulletdog.

Monday May 17, 2010 #

Note

Knee feels fair after yesterday's hike test. Not 100% but better than when I've run. Lotsa icing tonight.

Cycling (Commute) 50:00 [1]

Easy ride due to some technical problems on the Omega's steering.

Sunday May 16, 2010 #

Hiking 1:30:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D wide

Test hike with Bash and Bulletdog on the steepest hills of Hockley to see if my knee's up for the Mountain Marathon. No running.
I had my full MM pack on (5kg ) and an extra 2kg of water. With trekking poles I only felt my knee on the downhills. See how it is tomorrow.

Saturday May 15, 2010 #

Note

Stooopid knee's still a bit sore from Wednesday. No running for a while, but got my rx for an MRI now.

Strength (Home Gym +) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 3 + leg strength.

Cycling 3:00:00 [3]

Off to Albion to meet Coach LD for a really great full tour, then another loop of the technical trails with Rocky. At the one corner that I can't get around, Rocky hopped off and attacked the obstacles until it was ride-able. Don't mess with Rocky!

Back home, and a final small loop with Bulletdog.

Great biking and company!

Friday May 14, 2010 #

Cycling 2:30:00 intensity: (2:00:00 @1) + (30:00 @3)

Biked down to meet Rocky and Slowrunner at HStation for a nice social ride down to Inglewood and back.
Drier than yesterday!

Thursday May 13, 2010 #

Cycling (Commute) 1:00:00 [2]

Commute to work and back on the Omega, then back on the big bike to and from the Bike-o.

Knee's a bit sore from my little run yesterday. I suck.

Cycling (MTBO) 1:24:00 [3]

CN Bike-O in Palgrave. Off to a good start with nav working well, but in the cold pouring rain my rx glasses were completely fogged and my chain snapped.

Still managed to clean the course under the time limit pretty much by braille, and loved it!

Thanks to Rocky and her assistant Dunc for setting this up, and for standing in the rain waiting for us. Good thing your jacket is bright blue or you'd have been recumbent pizza at the bottom of that steep hill ;)

Wednesday May 12, 2010 #

Strength (Link+) 1:00:00 [2]

Link workout. A bit easy on some of the leg stuff, but did extra hams, glutes and other stuff according to Dr Billy and Bash.

Running hills 55:00 intensity: (30:00 @3) + (25:00 @4)
shoes: Brooks CP4 Yellow

Off for a run on nice soft ground, hitting all the hills of Palgrave. Legs felt light and fast, but I had to pull the plug early when the knee hurt in the usual spot after about 45 mintues.

Note

The hills are alive with the sounds of Morel hunters. Saw a few folks in Palgrave, but their quarry was scarce.

Running (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Easy run home with the Bulletdog in the dark.

Tuesday May 11, 2010 #

Note

Ultrasound results back- pretty vague- areas of inflammation in both medial (1.1cm) and lateral (1.9cm) compartments of the bad knee, and there's a lesser amount on the lateral part of the "good" knee too.

Popliteal Fossae appear normal and there is no evidence of joint effusion on either side. X-rays normal.

So, no clear diagnosis of a flap or tear that's an easy fix. 7 months since I hurt it, and it's *somewhat * better.

Ordered some Five Finger KSO Treks today.

7 AM

Cycling (Commute) 22:00 [2]

6 PM

Cycling (Trainer) 45:00 [3]

Cold and rainy out, and a big load of dog goodies to drive home from work, so I watched the Giro get cold, rainy and snowy on the Queen stage.
7 PM

Strength (Core) 20:00 [2]

Finished up the Hard Core DVD

Monday May 10, 2010 #

Running (Commute) 35:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D wide

Had to detour back as they've put up a barrier on my route past Bulletdog's swimming hole. Still feel the knee a bit.

Strength (Core) 20:00 [2]

Sunday May 9, 2010 #

Cycling 3:15:00 [3]

Great bike ride with Leanimal and Goose up by Hardwood and Horseshoe.
Chilly with snow-covered forest to start, but it thawed out and so did we. Lots of singletrack and doubletrack, still tons more trails to explore.

Saturday May 8, 2010 #

Note

Diagnostic ultrasound and x-rays yesterday. I could see some inflammation on the ultrasound, but need to wait for the "real Dr" to get the diagnosis.

Strength (Home Gym +) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 2 + leg strength workout.

Cycling (Trainer) 25:00 [2]

Easy spin on the trainer, but got caught up with Jens Voight's breakaway on the Giro stage 16.

Friday May 7, 2010 #

Running (Part Barefoot) 56:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D wide

Run around Palgrave with Bulletdog. I got a small stone in my shoe, and decided to take off my XA pros and run old school barefoot on the trails for 20 min 'till I needed to bushwhack.

My knee felt fair with the shoes but certainly better barefoot. I suspect I'm slower and more careful with bare feet.

Longest run in a while- see how it feels tomorrow.

Wednesday May 5, 2010 #

8 AM

Strength (Home Gym +) 50:00 [2]

Workout #1, and leg strength.
9 AM

Cycling 1:50:00 [3]

Great ride down to Albion and around, then back home to pick up the pooch. The woods are fantastic, and trail conditions and weather couldn't be more perfect. Had the whole place to myself too.
11 AM

Cycling (Commute) 25:00 [2]

Easy ride with the Bulletdog

Tuesday May 4, 2010 #

Running (Commute) 26:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks CP4 Yellow

Run home with Bulletdog. Knee's not perfect, but not as bad as it was last week.
7 AM

Running (Commute) 28:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks CP4 Yellow

Knee was feeling OK so I ran to work.
Fine for the first bit, perfect on the uphills, but feeling it a bit on the downhills. #@$!.

Monday May 3, 2010 #

Cycling 1:20:00 [3]

Commute, via red dog 1 & 3 on the way home, + 2 pond swims for the bulletdog. Absolutely perfect spring conditions- I love my commute.

Strength (Leg Strength) 15:00 [1]

Bash'n'Bill's leg strength.

Sunday May 2, 2010 #

Cycling 35:00 [3]

Active recovery spin in Palgrave East.

Running (barefoot) 5:00 [1]

Tiny little barefoot run. The knee's not great, but surprisingly better than last week after the Wild BOAR, where we did a lot less on foot.
I think it might be the sequence- the biking's great for my knee, and maybe running after biking's better than the reverse.

Adventure Racing race 5:11:00 [3]

FAC Deerhurst with Bash and Shifty.
I went in injured, we sat out a thunderstorm on the paddle for 10 minutes and dropped from lead pack to dead last, paddled back to mid-pack, rode up more in the pouring rain, Bash nailed all the nav on the trek, we spent 5 minutes talking down an irate landowner, Shifty's ITB seized up, our trekking bag with my poles and the next map didn't get moved and I had to use sticks, towing Shifty along a bit as Bash flitted lightly up the hills.

Shifty's a blast to race with, we held to our safety guidelines, my knee held out enough that I could tow on bike and foot a bit, Bash was fast and precise, and we got 2nd co-ed after all that happened.

All in all, a great day in the woods! So-o-o glad to be back racing.
As expected, our buddies Phatty Jr and RF got 1st overall and 1st co-ed.
