Cycling 1:25:00 [3]

Nice morning ride around Albion with Coach LD. Wish I had longer!

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Sense Ultra SG

Trot to work with AD, nice night run back.

Tuesday Aug 30, 2016 #

Running 1:00:00 intensity: (35:00 @3) + (25:00 @4)
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Good run with AD in cool morning air with some fast-ish intervals. Slow slog home as it was a bit hot and sticky for the pooch, and my leg tightened up from the morning.

Monday Aug 29, 2016 #

Cycling 45:00 [3]

Ride in via Rollercoaster and back with AD.

Sunday Aug 28, 2016 #

Running 1:30:00 [2] 8.0 km (11:15 / km)
shoes: New Balance 1210v2

Track and Tower trail with Bash. Spectacular views from the top!
Nice swim afterwards too.

Saturday Aug 27, 2016 #

Cycling 1:42:00 [3] 35.4 km (20.8 kph)

Track and Tower rail trail with Bash in Algonquin. Had to stop for Mr Ruffled Grouse who was controlling traffic.

Paddlng 1:30:00 [2]

Nice paddle with Bash up the creek to the North.

Also a nice swim.

Paddlng 30:00 [2]

Early morning SUP. Misty, flat calm.

Friday Aug 26, 2016 #

Running 1:30:00 [2]

Centennial Ridges trail with Bash. This is just full of spectacular views, and amazing forest.

Tricky to run post-lunch on a very full and contented stomach.

Paddlng 2:00:00 [3]

Paddle out to Gibraltar Rock where we got married 20 years ago, then around the island and up some interesting bays.

Time approx - Garmin's not recording properly.

Paddlng 30:00 [2]

Early morning kayak paddle in a slow pastic tub.

Note

Attn Light Geeks- new bad-a$$ daylight-visible light.
https://www.niterider.com/product/solas-150/

Seriously powerful, cheap and small. Vastly better than the ol' Superflash, or my previous favourite Flare R. Might save your life for under $75. Also has group ride low settings so you don't annoy your friends.

Running 28:00 [3]

Steamy dogless run in. Only 22c but I was soaked when I arrived, with fully fogged glasses.

Wednesday Aug 24, 2016 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 1 + KBs. Feeble on pull-ups again- getting fat and weak.

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Good run with AD. He got a nice clean swim to keep him cool. A bit pressed for time- I would have liked to go longer.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Steamy night run home. AD's not used to running on leash, and dragged benind at my heels.

Monday Aug 22, 2016 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

Yay, nice and cool for a ride in with AD. We went via switchbacks, with some extra singletrack. The little guy was so happy to be chasing the bike again.

Back on dog-driver duty tomorrow.

Cycling 2:05:39 [3] +102m

2 Ponds (Puslinch) with 3-pin Follas. He brought a ringer too, Skye the Flying Follas. Lucky she had her arm in a cast and has been off the bike so she didn't have to wait *too* long for us. She had to bail half way through though.
3-pin and I did the expert loop.
3-pin was on a full suspension plus-size monster, and cleaned a lot of wet rooty climbs. I had to get off and walk a few of the rooty curvy climbs, and took a couple of easier routes on 3-pin's advice, but mostly had a great ride. I'm riding with the small shock in the back mounts, and I love it. No mechanical issues, no war wounds. Some fun bumpy doubletrack at the end,

Running 1:15:27 [3] 10.65 km (7:05 / km) +356m 6:04 / km
shoes: New Balance 1210v2

Nice run with AD from 5th to 9. Good hills, great forest, lots of swims for the pooch.

Wednesday Aug 17, 2016 #

Running 57:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Yay, Bash is back! We had a surg consult in Scarborough for the big boy, but made it back in time for a run commute with AD. First night run home in a long while.

Bazingadog will be getting the belt-and-braces double surgery, TPLO bone surgery and Tightrope ligament reinforcement, to maximize strength during early and later healing. We'll probably need to sedate him for the first while so he doesn't blow it out early.

Monday Aug 15, 2016 #

Note

Not just the bike and dog out of commission- busy trying to find all my e-mail since a hard drive swap. First world problems.

Sunday Aug 14, 2016 #

11 AM

Running 1:41:32 [1] 10.93 km (9:17 / km) +94m 8:54 / km

Easy run with Bash and Yumi.

Cycling 52:00 [2] 12.22 km (14.1 kph) +61m

Ride with Bash, Yumi and Browner.

We got on a pretty rocky trail by accident. I was riding it pretty well until my bike went kerflooey. The shock had compressed fully, banged on the mount and stuck down. The suspension through-axle lost a retainer too, which we couldn't find, so I had to hike-coast back to the road while the ladies rode back to the van.

I guess I know what the Kodiak can and can't do. I need a shock rebuild and new suspension axle retainer, or maybe a better through-axle.

Saturday Aug 13, 2016 #

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Quick dash with AD between torrential downpours. We only got sprinkled on.

Strength 20:00 [3]

Core.

Running 1:14:00 [2] 9.76 km (7:35 / km) +134m 7:06 / km
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Dash with Bash for another run in steamy heat between storms and tornado warnings that had us in the basement.

Friday Aug 12, 2016 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 3 + rehab

Humidex in mid 40s = no mojo to train outdoors.

Wednesday Aug 10, 2016 #

Cycling 1:45:00 [3]

Early morning scoot back to Albion to ride the parts I missed in the Yellowjacket incident. Very nice morning, not a soul there except for one dude putting up tape for a race.
Some of the sandy pine bits are so dry they are washing out. Another month of drought and we'll need fat bikes there. The hardwood trails are like asphalt.

Tuesday Aug 9, 2016 #

Note

Dog chauffeur this week while Bash's away and Bazingadog awaits knee surgery.

Sunday Aug 7, 2016 #

Cycling 32:00 [1] 8.2 km (15.4 kph)

Very easy ride down to Eugenius's 50th party.
Good company, excellent wine, beer and 1966 port, great bruschetta from the garden and amazing bbq, biscotti and espresso. Felt like being back in Italy!
8 AM

Running 1:47:33 [3] 13.49 km (7:58 / km) +491m 6:45 / km
shoes: New Balance 1210v2

Nice loop of the Boyne river area with BGY and the intrepid Adventuredog.
We stopped for berries, and for AD to go boing into the Boyne and other creeks quite a few times.

Friday Aug 5, 2016 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [3] 14.0 km (14.0 kph)

Out with Bash in the steamy heat. New mods working perfectly now, and I got the big bike clean around Salty Steven, including around the tricky hairpin turn at the end for the first time.

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 2 and lots of rehab. I've been remiss on this.

Wednesday Aug 3, 2016 #

Paddlng 30:00 [2]

SUP in the quarry

Yoga 20:00 [1]

Caron's SUP yoga class.
My hamstring injury is *finally* loose enough to try this, even though it's still tight when running.
9 AM

Running 1:14:34 [3] 10.7 km (6:58 / km) +178m 6:26 / km

Stuffed my fat cankle into running shoes and my huge leg into loose shorts for a run around Palgrave with AD before it gets too hot.
2 nice clean swims for the pooch.

Tuesday Aug 2, 2016 #

Cycling 1 [3]

Off to Albion for a nice ride, testing out some new bling idlers.
Great traction in bone dry conditions.

I got off in a section of pine singletrack where there had been a blowdown to move a log, and thought I was suddenly swarmed with FDFs. Then I thought I was in stinging nettles, until I noticed the FDFs were ground wasps and they were all over me. I ran off, but had to dash back into the angry swarm to get my bike. I got hit at least 4 times, and decided to pull the plug and head home in case I get an allergic reaction again.
1 PM

Cycling 1:25:00 [3] 20.54 km (14.5 kph) +307m

Map from ride. Yellowjacket nest at km 13.7

10 AM

Paddlng 3:15:00 [3] 13.21 km (4.1 kph)

Paddle- out day. Back to the long portage from Louisa to Rock lake. I dropped off my boat and pack and ran back- felt like I was running in lunar gravity by comparison.
Good teamwork qnd organization and we made short work of the portage, even with Teeny Tiny and AD.
Back to Rock Lake campground for another swim, then back home via Kawartha Dairy and AO.

Fantastic trip, Teeny and Adventuredog were both rock stars. Perfect weather- no rain, not humid or super-hot, few bugs, great food, lots of relaxation and swims. Can you ask for better?
