Strength 30:00 [1]

Easy workout 1 but mainly rehab (which I have been remiss about)

Tuesday Aug 29, 2017 #

Running 55:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Easy run to work and back with AD.

Running 55:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Easy run in with the blg guy. A lot of stop-and-sniff on the way home, and he got dissed by a crow and sassed by a red squirrel.

Sunday Aug 27, 2017 #

Lumberjack 1:30:00 [2]

Hauled off the rest of the logs and distributed the rotten stuff in the forest.
8 AM

Running 1:00:57 [3] 10.99 km (5:33 / km) +13m 5:31 / km
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Rail Trail run with Hopper and friend, and coffee after with the rest of the C3 gang. Odd to run flat.

Strength (Lumberjack) 2:00:00 [3]

The big tree stump got cut down, and I split the remaining slabs into chunks I could haul off for later splitting.
The pieces probably weighed 200kg each, and were 1.5M wide, so it was a bit of a job to reduce them to chunks I could lift.
About half should be Ok to burn, the rest is too spongy and will just become forest mulch.

Got my fall cross-training all set up now.
4 PM

Running 1:02:24 [3] 9.61 km (6:29 / km) +178m 5:56 / km
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR 4

Palgrave East taper run. I alternated easy pace with 5 min of tempo. Lots of horse poop on the Northern trails and singletrack, lots of hikers on Salty Steven.

1 PM

Cycling 1:58:00 [2] 27.0 km (13.7 kph) +65m

Nice bikexploring session with Veinbuster up in his 'hood.
We found some old trails that were so overgrown we were riding by braille at times. Also some neat areas of hidden but well used trails.

Ample burs and mosquito bites, especially while fixing VB's chain.

Interesting tour, and fresh peaches from the tree after!

Thursday Aug 24, 2017 #

Running 55:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Commute with the big guy, who is in fine form.

Wednesday Aug 23, 2017 #

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Commute start and finish

Running hills 45:00 [4]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Ran Charlevoix and Rollercoaster, plus extra hills on Palgrave East and West. Sprinted the climbs- tough run.

Running 28:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Easy night run home.

Monday Aug 21, 2017 #

Cycling 55:00 [1]

Easy ride to work and back with AD.

Tired this morning- full rest day tomorrow.

Sunday Aug 20, 2017 #

8 AM

Running 1:55:29 [4] 15.57 km (7:25 / km) +550m 6:18 / km
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR 4

Shutup Legs run 2C.
Hockley park trails + up to North lookout with Logan the adventuredog.
AD really cranked up the pace when we were catching up to Bash- we passed each other 3x.

No poles, ran all the hills on sore legs at a solid pace. Really done after.

Gorgeous conditions, 7 nice clean streams and 2 swims for the pooch.

Saturday Aug 19, 2017 #

11 AM

Running hills 2:10:00 [4] 12.49 km (10:25 / km) +1267m 6:54 / km
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR 4

Back to Georgian for 5 more repeats with poles.
Good mountain weather training- at times it dumped rain, fogged in, and we had some good wind gusts.

The Hokas felt fine, but boy did they pick up bricks of clay on lap 3 with their huge footprint and deep indents.

Switched to the Calderas, which felt a lot lighter and more agile on the way up but definitely thumped more on the descent. Both shoes felt comfy, with no blister issues.

Got down 1.5L infinit and 0.5l water.

Lunch at Pie after!

Note

Brody the former Bazingadog seems to be feeling a bit better this morning. He got up and trotted around the yard. We'll see what the vet says. He was a mess yesterday.

Better still later this morning. Vet guesses he hurt his back or something. Easy week coming up.
10 AM

Running 1:58:57 [3] 16.22 km (7:20 / km) +511m 6:20 / km
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR 4

Tested out the Stinsons on a rough section of the Bruce with lots of steep and slippery sections. 7th line down to Hwy 9+ side trail, then back up to the Gazebo and back.

Shoes are super-comfy, with that magic Hoka downhill float, but I may need thicker socks or a thin insole.

Thursday Aug 17, 2017 #

Running 53:00 [3]
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR 4

Ran in with the big boy. He was running well and was happy at work until around 10:30 when something must have happened as he was crying in his bed and wouldn't get up. I had to call Bash to come get poor Brody and had to carry him to the car. Not sure if it's his other leg or something else.

He was sore in the evening, and took a lot of coaxing to go out and pee. Still crying a bit if he gets up, then sits down and doesn't want to move.
He has a vet appt tomorrow.

Ran home in the new Hokas that are to replace my failed Challengers.
The Stinson 4s are a wider fit with a better, more solid sole. Most comfy Hokas ever for me- should be good for UTMR with Calderas as alternates.

Wednesday Aug 16, 2017 #

Running- tire schlep 1:10:00 [4]
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Tough session with Schlep Sr up all the biggest hills in K-bash and Wheelie woods. AD came along too.

Running 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Decent run to work via pond hill and rollercoaster, and easy night run back.

Tuesday Aug 15, 2017 #

Running 55:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Commute with the big guy. He went airborne afer some turkeys launched out of the grass right beside us.

New shoes feel good- almost hoka-like, but wider.

Monday Aug 14, 2017 #

Running intervals 1:00:00 [4]
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Commute with AD via part of Charlevoix and Rollercoaster. Sprinted the hills, did some fartlek-type speed intervals.

Also sprinted all the hills home including Rollercoaster and pond hill switchback repeat.

Sunday Aug 13, 2017 #

Paddlng 2:00:00 [1]

Back out from David Lake, on the nicest day yet. Mirror calm, perfectly clear skies and no bugs.

Saturday Aug 12, 2017 #

Hiking 4:00:00 [1]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 2.5

Hike with the gang up Silver Peak.
Amazing blueberries up there- most I've seen.
We got hit by a storm and had to wrap up in the tarp for lunch.

Friday Aug 11, 2017 #

Paddlng 3:00:00 [3]

Rainy, stormy day.
Back across the big portage to David Lake. Heard a lot of thunder during the portage, and the footing was extra slippery.

Thursday Aug 10, 2017 #

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]

Hike up the ridge in search of views and blueberries. Lots of colourful mushrooms out too.

Paddlng 45:00 [2]

Trip back to the portage to look for a missing item.

Wednesday Aug 9, 2017 #

Paddlng 5:00:00 [2]

Canoe Trip into Killarney with Bash, Logan the Adventuredog and the Tiny Clan- Timato, Teeny Tiny and Mrs Tiny.

Paddle from Bell Lake into David Lake, then the 3.5K tricky portage to Great Mountain Lake.

Details and more accurate times to follow.

Tuesday Aug 8, 2017 #

Strength 45:00 [2]

Rehab + Link workout.
Also took the dogs for an easy jog/hike.

Bit tired today.

Sunday Aug 6, 2017 #

7 AM

Running 5:02:14 [3] 36.42 km (8:18 / km) +1622m 6:47 / km
shoes: Hoka Challenger ATR Grey

Shut Up Legs weekend part 3.
Practice with full race pack, aid station and race clothes and shoes.

Melanie B and BGY joined me for Hockley Quest For Hills, with tired legs to start, hiking hills with poles at a sustainable pace.
We did extra climbs and repeated some especially nasty ones. Gorgeous cool morning and good company. BGY gave us a tour with extra views.

The legs were good to start, but they certainly felt it by the last hour.

BGY had taken a bit shorter loop with less hill repeats, but met us with cold IPA at the parking lot!

Met Bash for a nice lunch at Black Birch to cap it off.

Note- Glad I tested the newer Hokas I planned to use at UTMR- part of the sole ripped off, after only 16 hrs of running on them.

Drank 3L infinit, 0.5ml water and a small glass of good beer at the end.

Saturday Aug 5, 2017 #

8 AM

Running 2:44:38 [3] 21.79 km (7:33 / km) +788m 6:24 / km

Shut Up Legs weekend part 2-
SMT with Trav, Katiemac, Logan and Roxy.
The dogs had a blast together. We all did the extra climb up Wall of Voodoo, and Logan and I did 5 extra K2s after. I would have done more, but a trip to Grupetto for coffee beckoned.
Great outing with good company for man and beast.

Dogs sure got along.

Friday Aug 4, 2017 #

11 AM

Running 3:03:19 [3] 20.83 km (8:48 / km) +960m 7:09 / km
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Shut Up Legs weekend part 1.
Threatening weather had me sticking close to the car, so I did South and North loops in Haffy. South has better hills but was mucky, and I got caught in one short downpour that had me bail back to the van briefly.
Drank 1.5L infinit+ 0.75L water at the end.

Thursday Aug 3, 2017 #

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Commute with AD via rollercoaster both ways. Legs feeling strong, despite the tight hamstring.

Wednesday Aug 2, 2017 #

Running- tire schlep 1:10:00 [3]

Hot and humid FDF sweatfest as Schlep Sr. turned the hills into mountains all around the Charlevoix and Wheelie woods. Logan the Adventuredog's not bad at swatting FDFs on his face.

Running 40:00 [1]

Easy trot to work so as not to overheat Bazingadog. He was fine in his cooling vest.

Cycling 27:00 [2]

Night ride home between storms. The big guy was on mission.

Tuesday Aug 1, 2017 #

Cycling 25:00 [2]

Ride in with AD, but massive storms had me leave the bike at work and get a ride home.
