Even hotter ride home via the rollercoaster.

Paddlng 1:00:42 [3] 6.74 km (6.7 kph) +2m

Paddle with Browner in our big whitewater boat from Princeton shores.
A bit breezy to start, and it got rougher as we headed East. Glad we came back when we did. Bash bobbed along easily in the surf ski.

Cycling 2:01:00 [3] 40.48 km (20.1 kph) +169m

Trip from ABC to Thornbury with Bash and Browned. We got a good paceline going into the headwind and threw in a Camperdown climb too.
Next up was a flight of cider at the Thornbury cidery, and an easier ride back with a lunch stop at Shale Rock cafe.

Monday Aug 13, 2018 #

Cycling 1:40:00 [3]

Bash and I rode up to 3 Stage from the South, and explored the upper trails. We managed to avoid some of the nastier ones and had a good ride, if a bit shorter than planned due to family health calls and texts.

Nice lunch at Bent Taco after. How appropriate.

Sunday Aug 12, 2018 #

Paddlng 1:52:00 [3]

We paddled out from Princeton to Lighthouse Island, and followed the SUP race in to Collingwood harbour. Mirror -smooth conditions, crystal clear water.
We pulled out and had a portage-in wood fired pizza at the food truck, then paddled across to the Sidelaunch booth for a beer while we watched the wakeboarding finals. We paddled past the kite festival at Millenium Point, where there were kites the size of transport trucks flying.
Beautiful paddle home, before bringing the dogs back for a swim.

Running 2:00:00 [3]

Pretty River with Tarno, Koko and AD. Nice cool morning, and dogs had a great time.

Biked the trails down to Sidelaunch Days to watch the wakeboarding- cable event.

Friday Aug 10, 2018 #

Running 40:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 3.5 red

Cool morning, and I thought I’d try BZdog with his e-collar and longline.
He got all excited when he saw the collar, and was flawless, passing the squirrel and turkey test with no intervention but my telling him to sit.

Note

Finally got my ear cleared- instant relief of 3 days of pain.

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]

Nice tour of Albion. No mud, no dust, no bugs, no other riders.

Thursday Aug 9, 2018 #

Cycling 45:00 [2]

Easy spin with the dogs while it’s cool in the morning.

Glad I wasn’t flying today with my ear ache.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Lumberjack

Wednesday Aug 8, 2018 #

Note

Bah, Fat Dog was just cancelled.
Staycation time.

Running 34:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 3.5 red

Short run with BZdog to test out the Runmeter app as my Garmin is in the shop.

Turns out I can wait now the race is off due to fires.

Tuesday Aug 7, 2018 #

Note

Left ear really painful most of the day.

Paddlng 1:30:00 [2]

Paddled out. It was a fun trip, with lots of relaxing down time.

Monday Aug 6, 2018 #

Note

Camped on Spider Lake. Lots more swimming, and AD joined us to swim across the channel and watch the kids cannonball off the rocks.
Visited by 2 snapping turtles too.
Hot day again, perfect for camping by a clear lake. Predicted storm missed us.

Ear was annoying but not too painful today.

Sunday Aug 5, 2018 #

Paddlng 2:00:00 [2]

Broke camp and headed to Spider Lake. Completely different feel from Gooseneck Bay. We had one longer portage which tested my splinted yoke- it hurt but worked.

Set up camp perched high on rocks. Hot hot day, lots of swimming.
AD swam with us, but he really had a tough night panting in the heat.

Saturday Aug 4, 2018 #

Paddlng 1:10:00 [3]

Short hard paddle with kayak blades while we camp in Gooseneck Bay.
Also a loop with Bash. Hot day, so lots of swimming. Lots of coffee, lots of reading, kids having a blast on a big open rocky site.

The Lucente boys are all highly amphibious, with aquaman Mick doing epic swims of 4-5km daily!

I had to watch the swimming- trying not to get water in my left ear as I’m on antibiotics for it- again.

Paddlng 2:30:00 [3]

Canoe trip with the Tiny and Mick clans. See Bash’s log for great pics.

3 legged lake to Spider Lake to Gooseneck Bay.

Nice weather and very nice paddling, until about an hour before the end where we saw nasty clouds roll up and could hear thunder in the distance.

As we saw a teepee on the shore, I slapped my forehead and remembered that the little bag I forgot had my TP in it. I was able to paddle up to a cottager hat in hand and they gave me a roll but declined my offered $20, before we dashed for camp.

We made it in and threw camp up fast under biblical sky and booming thunder, but it blew past pretty fast and we re-emerged to set up camp properly. Kids were great!

I could do without my missing headlamp, e-book and solar charger, but the Leatherman was missed when my yoke broke on the first portage.
I managed to whittle a splint later with a small knife I borrowed from Mick, and Larura kindly traded me a headlamp for my backup flashlight.
I also got cell signal, and was able to download the book I was reading to my phone’s Kindle app. The phone lasted the whole trip on airplane mode with lots of reading.

That first portage was a bit odd. I had the yoke break on the Cedarstrip boat so it was a painful one, and left it and my pack as I ran back to get the big boat and another load. When we got back I couldn’t find my pack. Turns out anoher group had loaded it into their boat, and were heading out!

Strength 30:00 [2]

Part of workout 3. Packing for 2 trips too.

Running 57:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 3.5 red

Run with the big boy in steam-sauna conditions. Not actually super hot but super humid. I soaked him down and he wore a cooler vest.
