Browner and Storm came over to drop off their dogs and go riding with us. We had a nice ankle-friendly route planned, mostly doubletrack. I had seen a Strava map that showed a load of singletrack in the NW of Palgrave. I’d checked that area out during the shutdown, and there was some old overgrown singletrack there. I had actually asked Andre the Trail Maintenance Volunteer if we could revive it, but he said the bike club didn’t want the liability.
We managed to find a discreet entrance where I had suspected, but to my surprise rather than a vague old track there’s a solid, technical singletrack trail there, with a mix of newly built sections, big drop-offs, and very recently cleaned-up old trail. We rode it for over 2km. Unfortunately Browner hit an off-angle wet log and faceplanted hard. Nothing broken, but we had to pull the plug and hike-a-bike to the doubletrack then home. Decaf, dogs on lap by a bonfire helped Browner recover, and IPA for us.
Not the most ankle-friendly riding, but no twists or crashes on it for me.
Turns out it’s brand new rogue singletrack.
