XC Skiing 2:30:00 [3]

Great ski- Tiny skied with the Crash, Bash and 'Bent Tree Huggers and the Bulletdog. Conditions don't get much better than this. Skiing with friends on great trails right from home- does life get better?

XC Skiing 1:00:00 [2]

Ski on the Charlevoix trail with Bash and both beasts.
Conditions are so perfect it's almost nauseating!
Also some silly walks in the deep snow.

Note

I had to wear very dark glasses for skiing, as I came from the optometrist and had my eyes dilated.
It turns out that my vision accomodation is going south, as happens to us shortsighted guys in mid 40s. I'm going to try a special prescription contact lens that may let me read maps and still see some distance.

My dominant eye will have distance in the centre, and a reading prescription around the edge, while the other one gets the opposite.

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #1. My back is nearly "back" to normal.

Misc (Core + Balance) 10:00 [1]

Ball work, abs etc and balance board while watching Saint Ralph, a good Hamiltonian running movie.

XC Skiing intervals (Commute) 26:00 [4]

I did a few max intensity intervals- basically the uphill sections. Even with stops to remove skis and my walking the last 300M to work, this is a quick commuting time.

XC Skiing 36:00 [3]

Slower ski home breaking trail in the snowstorm. I love my commute! It looks like we won't get quite as much snow as predicted, but it's pretty dense stuff.

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:24:00 [3]

Skiing the new trackset trails with K/0 and Bulletdog. A lot faster with well waxed skis in perfect conditions! K/O can really move once we got her on quicker skis. The Bulletdog should be pretty bagged after this!
Now we need to get some skate ski coaching with The Minister of Pain on Friday at Hardwood, if the weather permits.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Shortened workout #3- less time due to skiing.

XC Skiing (Commute) 32:00 [3]

Moving a little quick for T-dog with the waxless skis and good trails, but the bulletdog's still flying. More snow predicted- yee haw!

XC Skiing (Commute) 34:00 [3]

A 2-dog ski home. Trails are even faster tonight!

XC Skiing (Commute) 30:00 [3]

Brisk morning for a ski at -19C. Really nice vertical beam of light coming from the sunrise. I really have to get my act together and wax my skis, instead of using the waxless pigs.

XC Skiing 35:00 [3]

Another spectacular moonlight commute.

Silly Walks 10:00 [2]

The dogs thought I was nuts prancing around the snow in the moonlight, but who are they going to tell? I think I need to work on B a bit more.

XC Skiing (Commute) 30:00 [2]

Easy ski home. Once the moon came out T-dog and I didn't need the headlamp, even in the forest trails. Nice cold clear night.

Strength (Core + Balance) 15:00 [2]

Balance and core work on board and ball. It's the only way to watch TV!

Orienteering race (Thomass Chase) 43:00 [5] ***
ahr:185 max:193 shoes: Icebugs

My first Thomass with a 2 handicap. Good thing, as I needed it. In addition to the usual silly blunders (lost my compass in the snow, hit a tall fence) I seemed to have slow legs. Looking at my HRM afterwards I couldn't belive how hard I pushed, yet definitely wasn't running all that fast. The grimace on the pictures tells the tale.

Not over my cold? In lousy shape? Need to do more speed work? Whatever it is, I should start slower, check my HRM more during the race and ease off. Don't want to keel over.

Still had fun on a nice course with a very good map.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [1]
