XC Skiing (Classic) 2:20:00 [3]
Skiing at Sovereign Lakes.
We did a long loop up the mountain to the summit and back. Compared to some of the hills back home this wasn't steep, but sure was sustained for the climb. One of those days where the wax works so well you can trot up the hills without herringboning, yet you have good glide. I got in some nice telemaks on the wide downhills too. Absolutely perfect day, brilliant sun, no wind, tons of snow, gorgeous scenery.
XC Skiing (Skating) 1:05:00 [4]
We switched to skate skis for the PM.
It turned out that the conditions that were so excellent for classic were slow for skating, as several others commented. I had to pay attention not to get way into level 5 on the climbs! I have no idea how people skate effortlessly up hill, unless they are in wa-a-ay better shape than me. Some sections in the sun had better glide. I re-waxed for the right temperature after the ski, and it seemed a bit better. I think I prefer skating on warm days when classic's lousy. Still gorgeous trails on a great day, but those hills that didn't seem all that steep on classics are plenty steep on skate skis.
