XC Skiing 20:00 [1]

Ski with 2 dogs. The breaking crust gave them a hard time until we hit my old snowshoe tracks. I may need to put boots on them. Had to cut it short.

note
Off to the bike show this PM- got to pick up my tuned up 'bent and work a bit at the CARA booth.

Snowshoeing (Commute) 32:00 [3]

Hard running in rain-crust over 15cm of powder, as the rain came down. Much more fun than the trainer yesterday.

Snowshoeing (Commute + (1hr)) 45:00 [3]

I scouted and cleared a re-route for my commute. The dark green forest had an overgrown road or trail in it, and some judicious pruning lead to a nice narrow trail through the bush, to an underpass beneath the highway.

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #3

Cycling (Trainer) 50:00 [3]

Bah. Drove to work as I had a meeting afterwards. It was cancelled, so I could have skied home in the snowstorm. Instead I rode the trainer. Some hard intervals, but not structured, just pounding along while the TDF guys climbed some steep hills on stage 19 of the 05 tour.

Strength (Core) 38:00 [2]

Hard Core DVD.

XC Skiing 1:00:00 [3]

Very fast ski on the commute. Guess all that skiing up big climbs at altitude helped- I just flew up the hills.

Had to do some bushwhacking through dark green to scout a bypass of the construction on my ski trail. Imagine the nerve of them tearing up my trail over their property!

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #2. Haven't used the machine in quite a while, and the weights are back down accordingly on any exercises that are non-ski related.

XC Skiing (Commute) 55:00 [3]

Nice ski with Bulletdog. Went from -5 in the AM to +1 in the PM, so I used a shot of spray grip wax. Tomorrow it's waxless skis for sure.

On the way home it seems that they've bulldozed part of my ski trail, right up to a fence. Some re-routing and nav will be needed ASAP.

Note- lower calf/ ankles a bit sore from all the off-camber frozen lumps I ran in yesterday.

Orienteering 1:39:00 [4]

I did the Thomass Palgrave that I missed due to illness. I had studiously avoided seeing the map.
I did the full elite course with Bulletdog, and tried to stay off the old tracks where I could see them. I made a point of taking some unique routes to controls to add to the nav training aspect. Most of the flags were down, but I was confident that I had the right spots, especially as I could see old tracks there.
I made one silly route choice, but no real errors.

I was disappointed that even with my local knowledge I would have finished out of the time limit as an elite. Guess there's lots of room for improvement. Good thing I'm old and can drop controls. I suppose it would be easier seeing other runners and running in tracks.

Orienteering warm up/down 25:00 [1]

Easy jog to and from the start. Also a good chance to pick off burs.

XC Skiing 1:10:00 [3]

Skate Ski at Canmore. I've felt sluggish all week, but today was the first in a while I felt good skating uphill.
Back home tonight.
