Adventure Racing race 5:37:00 [4]

FAC Deerhurst with Bash and Shifty. Good race for us, despite challenges.
Better details to follow on Bash's log, but for FB...

Bash wasn't sure about this one- some vague controls that might be a crapshoot.

We had some bike issues on the first leg- Shifty's bike no-shifty etc, but we passed some teams on the paddle and got out right behind Tiny's MBR.
On foot we had a small nav issue with a misplaced CP, hit some trails behind the airport, and between Shifty and Bash we found the way to CP4 without too much trouble, unlike a lot of teams.

We leapfrogged Sophia's team quite a bit. Back on the bikes then trekking again, and Bash found us the vague CP8 "Intersection of 3 trails" nicely, jumping ahead again. Off to the advanced CP8A- some thick bushwhacking but again Bash and Shift got us over a bridge and on the trail to 8A in first co-ed, 4th overall. Heroic Shifty swam the icy river, and Tommy Hillflyer helped him out on the far side. Unfortunately Shifty's legs seized up after the icy swim so I towed him on the run, very glad it wasn't me cramping after a swim. He couldn't even go on tow on his bike, so I ended up pushing his bike riding mine 1-handed for a few km while he limped along. MBR blew past us. I thought we might have to bail, but Shifty's so tough- he, walked then jogged up the hills, recovered enough to ride, and we rode and towed through the remaining CPs, passing MBR again thanks to Bash's great nav. We ended up in a race to the finish but 10 seconds behind MBR for 2nd co-ed and 5th overall. Hillflyer's boys were a few minutes behind us.

Good teamwork all around- Bash's nav was great, Shifty swam the nasty creek and helped with nav, and I towed where I could.

Note

More light geek stuff- I spoke with Eric at Night Lightning.
They can make the 1000 lumen Mini-Blaast with the controller in the head or remote controller. It can be made for 7V or 14V, but the 14V is more efficient.

There's a mini Quad available that is up to 1300 lumens, but it needs 14-18V.

They are working on the headband, and I saw pics of the prototype.

Also, if several folks here order some they are willing to do a discount.

No financial interest, yada yada.

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #1. Felt good- serious blasting today.

Running (Commute +) 57:00 [4]
shoes: Brooks CP Green 2

Bulletdog and I donned our "Not a Turkey" outfits and ran over to Palgrave East. (Hideous lime green with a red hat for me, and orange vest and leash for the pooch.)

The blue trail is almost under the water table on the North East bit- very soggy. We did a tour of the Reddington Fields over to the rail trail too, where we skied with Tiny.

Legs feel quick.

Running (Commute) 25:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks CP Green 2

Evening run home- only needed the headlamp at the end.

Paddlng (erg) 30:00 [2]

After driving to work and back. Sigh.

Cycling (Commute - road) 25:00 [3]

I was in the garage with Bulletdog getting ready to bike to work when I heard a very loud Boom. It got Bash out of bed and running downstairs too- we thought the neighbour's propane blew up or something. We called them, and they didn't explode. Our guess is unauthorized turkey hunting going on, *very* close to our house or their property. No trails for Bulletdog today, so I booted it down the roads.

@#%*. All I need now is for the trails to be off limits due to stupidity.

Note

Funny article in the paper-
"Caledon Runners Compete in Boston-
Richard Ehrlich is top Caledon Runner."

Makes it sound like I'm the top runner in Caledon, not the top runner of the small group that happened to go, unless you read the whole article:)

The online version didn't have the subtitle.

Cycling 2:35:00 [3]

Rail trail with Bash, Goose and Leanimal, meeting up with LD and Gosling near Inglewood. First decent ride of the year. Let's see how my knee feels tomorrow.
