XC ski-Skate 3:45:00 [3]
Super camp day 3 - skate ski.
Last year my knee allowed me to skate a total of 45 minutes, and I'm not all that great at it. Wth Coach Dave we spent a lot of time on free-skate committing to one ski, double poling efficiently, and 1-skate getting up nice and tall, more on the ball of the foot, with smooth transition and vertical torso. I actually got it pretty well in the training area.
Next, up the big climb to Paradaise camp, where long offset felt awkward and inefficient, as Revy shot on ahead. Some good coaching as to how to find a lower gear for climbing,( more stepping, less gliding) but I just don't have the specific skate muscles.
Still a gorgeous day, and it went very well on the way back.
In the PM we went up the same way as Bash joined us, and all the way to Alder Point. On the return trip the wheels just fell off as my legs had had it, so even the rolling downhill was work. Technique went out the window. No surprise given that this was 5x more than I did all last year, and at altitude.
