Running 1:15:00 [1]
shoes: Brooks True Grit Red

Super easy trot around Palgrave.
Felt pretty good this AM, and knee seems 95%.
Great day for a bike ride, but don't want to overdo it.

7 AM

Running 4:22:37 [3] 38.5 km (6:49 / km) +740m 6:13 / km
shoes: Hoka Mafate 2

Coach Spaff had prescribed a 45 minute flat-ish run followed by 2.5hrs of very hilly running then 45 flatter. I thought I'd invite Bash and Greg Y to do the Hockley loop, then run home from Greg's place, but sub-coach Bash is strict and made sure I ran to Greg's before Hockley as well (although she drove!)

After running to Greg's place we drove up to meet DD11 and run the Hockley loop. Perfect day for it. Good chance to try out new Salomon compression shorts, and my trekking poles. Both worked fine, but may need gloves to avoid blisters. Under instructions to walk the steep hills, and legs felt good especially with pole-assist.

Nice lunch at the Black Birch, a drive back to GY HQ and then he gave me a tour of some new-to-me trails back to the Bruce. I noticed my time was a little short so I went a bit further before cutting home- turns out the Garmin missed a few km early on and some during the loop so I went over.

Note

CCC last year:

Cycling 52:00 [2]

Easy recovery spin commute with the big guy, who hauled me up to 36kph at one point before settling in to an easy trot.

Running hills 25:00 [4]
shoes: Brooks True Grit Red

Hill intervals- Ugh, hard work with a heavy pack and a Turkey-chasing Bazingadog, but I got 4 repeats on the lookout hill, 1 from the Wheelright pond, one up the biggest Charlevoix hill and a hard Palgrave Pond hill.

Note

I will be ordering some more Pocketfuels in the next while. I seem to be getting through them.

Harps scored me some, but I'll be getting the big refills by mail order.
If anyone else wants to piggyback on the order, let me know.

Running 27:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks True Grit Red

Easy run home. Beautiful warm still night- hardly needed the 'Bentblaster.
9 AM

Cycling hills 1:01:00 [3] 23.0 km (22.6 kph)

Need to get some climbing in on the bike, so down to the rail trail, across to Centreville, then up the hilliest route around to Finnerty, across to Innis, up to the North end and back home. Man, my biking legs are feeble.
11 AM

Running 1:23:00 intensity: (35:00 @2) + (48:00 @4) 13.12 km (6:20 / km) +167m 5:57 / km
shoes: Brooks True Grit Red

Coach Spaff had a pretty hard workout planned for me today.
Despite some sore muscles and a bit of a touchy knee I tried to get it done with the dog and commuter pack. Lots of turkeys and deer out.

15 Tempo, hill intervals, then 10 tempo.

Ugh, hard work with a heavy pack and a Turkey-chasing Bazingadog, but I got 4 repeats on the lookout hill, 1 from the Wheelright pond, one up the biggest Charlevoix hill and a hard Palgrave Pond hill.

Couldn't quite hit the Tempo coach Spaff wanted.

Cycling (commute) 25:00 [1]

Easy roll to work- Bulletdog was panting even though it's cool and foggy.
I'm still feeling a bit tired myself.

Cycling 35:00 [2]

Easy spin home- 2 swims for Mocha but she was still panting and taking it easy. She enjoyed it, but may not be up for much biking this summer.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]
shoes: NB MT 101

Ugh- woke up tired today. Did an easy jog, some leg swings and other dynamic stuff, some wind sprint intervals to finally get the legs going.
10 AM

Running (Road) 40:59 intensity: (54 @4) + (40:05 @5) 10.13 km (4:03 / km) +53m 3:57 / km
ahr:180 max:185 shoes: NB MT 101

Brantford Rotary 10K AKA Campbell challenge.Last year Bash Sr did 5K faster than I did 10K.

This year I kept the HR a touch lower, felt fine, seemed to run OK but went a full minute slower than last year. Hmm- 1 year older, or coming off a 14hr week with 7.5hrs in the last 2 days? Knee was a little sore, but not a factor.

Despite the excuses, I have to say I was a bit disappointed I didn't pull off a sub-40, especially when all the cool kids from the Sulphur squad are going sub 39 or even sub 38.

The bad news continued- I was only 3rd in my age group this time, 11/250 or so overall.
The good news I guess- I beat Bash Sr's time, but he did have the excuse of being in hospital this week.
The better news- Bash won her age group!
Best news- Bash Sr raised the most ever, almost $4K.
