Vulturebait 50K. The plan was to run a very easy first lap, take only Tailwind drink and hammer gels, and see if I can avoid ultra-nausea.
Trails were gorgeous in full fall colours, almost all flat, but the few muddy downhills had nervous runners' knees quaking. Lots of slippery mud in some areas.
I watched the HR and jogged the first half super-easy in 2:22, feeling fine. BGY was taking pics, and was impressed by how I held back.
I finished my first litre of Tailwind with 3.5 scoops, and one hammer gel with about 1/3l water.
Second half started OK, but at the 40K mark my stomach started feeling dicey and pace dropped. Every sip of Tailwind was followed by burps and nausea, but I finished the second L of tailwind. By 45 K I had one dry heave, and pretty much couldn't take anything else in. I turned down offered coke and even beer, and bet if I had eaten any food at all it would come right back up.
I had maybe 1/2L water on this lap, really couldn't swallow any more.
Gutted it out to the finish with legs like cement, and was too nauseated to eat or drink for an hour or so after, but eventually nibbled a bit of soup and a tiny bit of mac-and-cheese noodles.
RAPS came in looking good on his first 50 paced by a beaming BGY who had scored a full beer on the course.
STORM had a good run, and was 6th overall. Wokitoki had a great run and was 6 minutes faster, 4th overall.
I was pretty surprised to win the geezer category.

NAOC long.- GPS only recorded part.
More my style today- longer legs with fast runnable trail and less technical nav.
I still finished in the bottom third, made some errors but at least knew where I was all the time so a lot less frustrating than yesterday.
I was less than double Champion Hammer's time, so proportionally better I guess.
