Adventure Racing race 4:00:00 [3] 47.5 km (5:03 / km) +391m 4:51 / km

Storm Fail.
I've been sick with my stupid man-cold, but it's been gone for a couple of days so I decided to do Storm Elite.
Off the bat I didn't have any good running speed. Bit of a poor choice in the first section on foot, but at least I got to navigate alone clean and some bushwhacking shortcuts worked better than trail running.
On the bike I started well back, but passed 7-8 teams en route to the next run section. Ran even slower this time, but got all the CPs easily enough. The next run section I was feeling really gassed, and I could feel my lungs. I ended up walking almost the whole thing- should have stayed in bike shoes.
I didn't eat much, but was drinking Tailwind and taking salt caps. (3 total) My calves had started cramping a bit as I started this section so I had a Tums too.

Next bike section was a bit chaotic as I caught the short-course teams who were a bit wobbly on rocks, but somehow I didn't have much oomph for passing.
There was a medic after one mud-hole, and he said I looked like crap and asked to check me out. When he heard I was having a bit of trouble breathing he rubbed his hands in glee and took my BP twice before declaring he would like me to not continue but get a ride at the next road. Apparenlty my HR was high a d BP low, so I was dehydrated despite drinking 2L so far and taking salt pills. He said it's really hard to evac someone from the next section, and I didn't want to be that a-hole that ignores the medic then needs a complex evac so onto the truck-of-shame I went.
The nurse at HQ agreed that I still wasn't race-ready an hour later, (HR still high, BP a bit low- post-viral) but a *recreational* paddle was ok.

I suspect on a hot day almost anyone would have the same symtptoms, but I really was feeling a bit feeble post man-cold, or maybe it was the stomach issue coming on at the earlier stages.

Paddlng 30:00 [2]

Nice little paddle around the lake. Recreational.

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Sense Ultra SG

Is there anything nicer than a cool spring morning run to work with 2 dogs?
Actually didn't hack on exertion. Maybe feeling 65% better.

I think I'll give STORM Elite solo a go, but may be more of a tour than a hammerfest.

Cycling 35:00 [3]

2-dog run down to the Wheelie pond, and back via the Lookout and Thinker's Hill. Both of them had a great run.

BZdog on harness pre-soaked, and had a great swim. AD sounded like I was using boiling oil on him when I sprinkled him with the hose before the run. Not a water dog.

Paddlng (erg) 20:00 [1]

Foot, knee, heelhab and a spin on the erg.

Cycling 1:05:00 [2]

To work with AD. He rocketed along beside me on the singletrack very nicely.
On the way home he was spooked by by truck traffic, and tried to run around the bike on leash. I had to walk him to the trail, as he was shying away from the bike. Back off leash he was perfect, and we visited the pond and switchbacks.

Cycling 55:00 [2]
(sick)

Easy commtue with BZdog. We had a close encounter with a deer but he was fine- just hammered down the trail pulling the bike. He's feeling the warm temps a bit - had a swim after.

My cough is getting better.

Cycling 30:00 [2]
(sick)

Easy ride down the Charlevoix trails with both dogs. BZ dog kept up a solid pace and had a good swim in the wheelie pond, but AD wouldn't put a toe in.
Dogs trotted gently back, and BZ dog didn't even flinch when a turkey took off right beside us.

Coughing a bit, but able to ride at an easy pace.

Paddlng (Erg) 30:00 [1]

Very easy spin.
