Storm the Scarpment with 3pin (Jamie Follas)
We went into this knowing that Jamie's an amazing biker but has running issues, and on my 'bent I'm not at his biking level.

Course format was 4 loops of basically paddle, run back to bike, ride up the escarpment and get CPs, then back down and run to paddle. One more loop (second last lap) up was on foot.
We decided Jamie would nav bike and I'd do run. Between his fogged rx glasses and my forgotten reading contacts, we should have been Team 2 blind mice.

We were basically right with the leaders on the first run, paddle and escarpment climb.
3pin took off, but we immediately made some poor nav choices as 3pin couldn't read the map while riding, and ended up riding gnarly Bruce Trail before finally bagging 31. We sorted it out when we stopped en route to 32, and had to go right back to 30 at the top of the climb then back to 31, losing about 24 min. After that the nav went fine. 3pin absolutely killed the technical descents, getting air and riding obstacles.

On the second lap up we met Dee and Ursula, the Tree Hugger female team, with a mechanical and some ineffective assistance. 3pin had the chain pins done pronto.
Unfortunately on the way down on the very last turn I lost my rear wheel and crocked my tailbone and ribs hard, spending a while lying on the ground groaning and wondering if I was done.
I was able to suck it up, but running and paddling the SUP really hurt, as did breathing hard and hitting bumps on the bike.

The running lap was pretty slow for both of us as we were both hurting. I'd hoped I could tow - no way- but at least we navigated cleanly.

On our last lap I was able to ride the whole way up, but 3pin almost killed me when he thought riding the entire Extreme trail after the aid station was shorter.
We made it in before the massive deluge, but well behind Pulling Foot and Attack from Above, who both had great races.

Bash and Jill did a great job despite the rain, on Jill's first adventure race!

I may have a broken rib- I couldn't lift the canoe or barely walk to the car and it hurts to breathe deeply, but we still had a fun race. 3Pin and I work well together, and I'd rather deal with injury than illness, nausea and puking.

Running 3:00:00 [1]
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR

Out pacing Virginia on her Bruce Trail run through Hockley.
BGY and I kept her well entertained, Strve handled her poles, and she was in great spirits and running well. We were joined by 2 of the BARFs and 3 of her friends.

Did some downhill running demos for amusement, while BGY did creek dives.

Maybe not the best taper for STORM but lots of fun.

Note

New bike world speed record- and it's a U of T team!
Team Aerovelo and the ETA bike just hit 137.9 kph in their bullet-bike at Battle Mountain. Dead flat, dead calm, from a dead stop.

The bike is so aero it doesn't even have a windshield, just cameras. I have a patch from being a minor sponsor.

Cycling 35:00 [2]

2-dog blast down to Wheelie's pond for a doggie dip, then back in the cool morning. K-dog had to stay home this time.
10 AM

Cycling 46:35 [3] 9.93 km (12.8 kph) +204m

Time for another try at Albion with the Kodiak.
This time went a lot better. I dialed back the rebound speed for less pogo (Thanks Carbon). This bike is better in every way except still a little harder to get around tight corners. I definitely had a decent ride, with no mechanicals.
