Running race
Cortina Trail Race
STORM and I raced together. We started fairly far back in the pack.
The plan was to watch the HR and keep it similar to the Eiger Ultra where I felt good. We were doing really well, filming with GoPro, chatting, watching the HR, passing folks by the thousand (literally). The scenery was jaw-dropping, weather was fine. Even got to use some Italian chatting with other racers.
We stuck to the plan of soaking our hats or heads in every creek possible, and filling my hat with snow up high. I had a custom Infinit mix in the bladder and plain water in the bottle, which was going down well. I didn't take any food but a square of chocolate and a tiny piece of cheese.
We took it easy on the climbs and didn't blast the downhills but still passed a lot of nervous descenders. We were in 328 at Passo Giau.
Unfortunately on the last 2 big climbs around 36 km I got sick as a dog despite dialing it way back. Couldn't even sip liquid on the last monster climb, lay there dry heaving for quite a while. I never really got much better. STORM was a rock star sticking with me and helping me out. Even gave me his plain water as I couldn't keep Tailwind or Infinit down. We got passed by over 100 people. On the downhill!!
I had to walk when I got too nauseated, and at times I had to sit or lie down. Zero calories for the last 2.5 hours. STORM probably could have finished an hour earlier at his own pace.
Still maybe the most spectacular race ever. Unbelievable!
After lying down for an hour slowly sipping drinks I felt better.
Browner finished way ahead of estimate, looking great!
