Storm the Trent Warsaw
I woke up on race day not only with a wonky ear with a perforated drum, but also drenched in a cold sweat with a weird gut. I figured I'd head to the start and see if I need to bail after the first section.
I heard that Joe was here from the US, so I'd have my work cut out for me in solo Masters.
We started with a run in Warsaw caves. Despite taking it easy, I was able to move up on the lumpy footing to near the front with Beowulf. I could hear my breath howling through my ear like a jet plane if I went too hard but my balance was Ok on the flatter sections. I took my time with the nav. Once we got into the scrambly rocky section I had to concentrate hard to stay upright instead of carefully navigating, and went looking for the wrong circle after 23, (hit 25) With my Cool Runnings buddies we completely messed up trying to find 24. Got back in the game after making almost 25 minutes in errors on this leg, with Joe far ahead.
On the bikes, I worked my way back up. Lots of solo riding in the rain, then I caught Long Sault, and leapfrogged them for the rest of the race.
Rocky ATV trails were really wet, with lots of hub-deep puddles, but the Kodiak chugged through them fine, and I passed more teams.
I eventually caught Joe just before the second trek when he overshot a CP.
Second trek went fine- I did it in all my biking gear to save TA time.
Biking back we had one section that was belly-deep swamp, and my map board neck-strap system gave me a lot of trouble, but I was able to keep moving up.
Biking into Warsaw I just saw Wokitoki finishing his paddle! He was over an hour ahead.
Despite a symphony of leg cramps, the paddle went well and I was able to pass Long Sault, and catch Ripkin AR after 5 hours of chasing. I saw the second solo motoring along in a K1, then Beowulf.
Into the finish, glad to have survived the race. I actually ended up 2nd Masters, as Jacek the second overall just turned 40. I wouldn't have caught him even with clean nav. Not sure how I did overall yet, but further back than usual. EDIT- 8th overall.

Beowulf pulled out a very solid 3rd overall and first team, and Bash won the solo female. Wokitoki was untouchable.
As always, thanks to STORM, Browner and crew for a precision race.

Strength 40:00 [2]

Workout 1 + rehab.

Note- my right ear's been bad for 9 days. It was getting better but not great today.

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

Nice doubletrack ride in with the big boy. As always- started out gangbusters, down to a casual trot after 15 min.
He was quick on the night ride home.

Cycling 55:00 [2]

Commute with the big boy. We tried some easy singletrack but he wasn't too keen (he's harnessed to me)

Running 3:05:30 [3] 26.15 km (7:06 / km) +564m 6:24 / km
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Mono Cliffs and North with BGY, FTTass, Glen and Nick.
Forgot to restart Garmin after 21k.

Glen and Nick bailed at the North end while we ran back then did the other side trails in Mono Cliffs.
Nice mix of easy pace, some quicker climbs and a couple of fast descents.
Good company. Good lunch but slow sevice after at Barb's Kitchen. (Not that Barb). Got to hear about Hunter's hundred miler.
