Training Log Archive: 'Bent

Interesting drive across to the Pacific coast past the volcanoes.
Final evening is on a nice quiet beach- well, except for the howler monkeys.

Been a good once-a-decade trip for a couple of biology-geek brothers, but sorry Bash and Miki didn’t get to enjoy it.

Early morning bird tour with the amazing guide. Despite Bro’s horror at the early hour, it was excellent. Saw tons more amazing birds, including the more reclusive keel-billed toucans, huge Green Ibis, boat-beaked herons etc,







Next up- a canoe trip in a second growth forest and lake- very peaceful, very lush. More herons and other spectacular birds. Just us and the spanish-speaking young guide.

Final stop up to a coffee plantation tour.
Almost 1000m up into the clouds. Very lush, different forest, phenomenal drop-off views to massive rapids, huge waterfalls- and good coffee.







Made it back to the lodge a bit early to hang out a bit.

Next up- Primary Lowland rain forest hike at Tirambina









Then boat tour to spot iguanas and cayman.

Part 2 of the trip for my brother’s 50th. Travel from Arenal area to Chilamate in the Sarapiqui region- lower and more humid.

We had a more relaxed day with a jungle chocolate tour, and a pre-dinner stroll.

Bro’s able to rattle away in Spanish to taxi drivers and tour guides. I can understand lots, but can’t seem to come up with sentences.

Interesting trip, with some moderately tricky bits and tight squeezes for El Gordo (Well-fed Bro) but not too bad for El Flaco (Skinnier ‘Bent).

Hike with Bro in Mirador de Silencia park. Amazing full-on jungle, and rougher trails. Spectacular!
