Note

I originally intended to add a bike ride, but Dog #1 got me up at 5 am and that was just too much.

Then, while I was in the woods, my new boss called, so I figured it was some quick question - no, I had to check out a car for work. So I had to drive from fracking Pontiac to Taylor. On the way, my old boss called and said maybe my calibration was wrong. I got there, checked out the car, and it's not my fault. Hardware guys have issues. Were hardware guys on site, wasting away a Saturday? NOOOOOOOOOOooooooo. :-P

10 AM

Orienteering 1:23:32 intensity: (1:23:24 @0) + (8 @1) *** 2.38 mi (35:04 / mi) +52m 32:51 / mi
ahr:85 max:127 spiked:5/6c

Instructing at PLRA from the beach up through some yellows. Maybe I'm off my game, but those yellows seem way to hard compared to the course guidelines. Maybe it's the vegetation. There's crawl-on-your-knees in white. Note to self: Scout the damn posts beforehand! On the upside, I was able to let them have at it without any unintentional leading.

This couple is looking to set up a program with some scouts, so that should be pretty cool, especially if they are able to join some SMOC meets. I think they are looking at Highland or PLRA since they are out that way.

Note
(rest day)

Not originally intended to be a rest day, but work is a bit much. 75% of my department wasn't in town, and we have enough problems for all them.

Biking (Trainer) 43:00 [1]

Probably should've gone for a outdoor ride, but I wasn't set up and was dragging. At least I did something, and hopefully a little walk/jog tonight. Daybreak #6.
7 PM

Walking 48:25 intensity: (28:20 @0) + (14:57 @1) + (2:20 @2) + (2:09 @3) + (39 @4) 3.14 mi (15:24 / mi) +3m 15:21 / mi
ahr:114 max:168 shoes: Brooks Ghost Blue

HRM was obviously off for the first 2/3rds of a mile. Nothing a little saliva couldn't fix.

1 mile paved @ 3.5 mph
1 mile easy jog on dirt @ 5 mph
1 mile paved @ 3.5 mph

Erg rowing 43:00 [1]

More Daybreak. Not sure why I stayed up later last night. Should've gotten up earlier to do 2x.

Dear wife is starting a slow build towards a 5 or 10k, so I joined.

1 mile warmup walk - hard surface
1 mile 12:00/mile slow jog - dirt road
1 mile cooldown walk - hard surface

Note

Now that training volume is in the right area, I should see about sleeping more and eating better.
6 PM

Running 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

I forgot my gps! Nuts! An extended full tour of the Badlands. Excellent run, much easier than when I cut it short during 95 deg heat.
7 PM

Biking (Mix) 1:00:00 [1] 8.5 mi (8.5 mph)
shoes: Jamis Dragon Sport 29er

Again, still no gps. Leisurely roll via paved surfaces to Trout Lake, then the two track to and around Trout Lake, then back. Light drizzle. Refreshing change from the usual 95 deg of Monday training nights.

Biking (Rail Trail) 3:54:59 intensity: (1:03:17 @0) + (2:24:01 @1) + (27:41 @2) 54.22 mi (13.8 mph) +191m
ahr:128 max:151 slept:6.0 shoes: Jamis Dragon Sport 29er

~75% gravel, 35 psi.

This was originally scheduled for Saturday, but I slept in that day. So I did it on Sunday. Out the door around 4:45 am in order to make it to Big Rapids and back before waffles. Some highlights:

I saw a horse on the road. Not with a person, just a horse. It ran off into someone's yard.

Still fearful of skunks, I got nervous seeing seven sets of eyes on the trail, but then it was just six kittens and a mother.

I almost wiped out in some sand.

Check out the perfect splits - 1:55 to the park, five minute snack break, and 1:55 back to the barn.

Just before getting back, I saw a crop duster. I am being dead serious when I say he was no more than 30' off the ground on some passes. I'm not sure how he didn't hit powerlines or trees. Remind me never to ride along with a crop duster.

I only saw three other trail users in the ~3 hours on the White Pine trail - a walker, a runner, and an Amish buggy full of Amish.

Great ride, although I can feel some soreness in my quads already today.
