Note

Highland permit mailed slightly late. Hopefully they are kind. I kept hoping I would get up there in person, but Dearborn to White Lake with the last test I ran at work....

ahr:110 max:164 slept:7.0 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 8s

Wandered around some trails at Spring Mill. Even on trails I lost track a couple times. Is there a more challenging venue??

My original W-Y routes don't look as good in person, at least now in mid summer.

Some of the woods are in great shape with nice visibility. Others look a bit like a jungle. :)

One of the nice things about this park is I think you could throw darts at the map and you are guaranteed to hit a usable control site (at least terrain wise, some might be a little overgrown in a few spots).

w/ dear wife and light pack.

Note

Proud Lake will have 500 goodie bags. We can include something if we want, like a flyer or event calendar, as long as we supply it a few days in advance so they can stuff the bags.

So far 0.0 takers from the SMOC distribution list for assistance.

I am thinking of maybe a 5-6 point score o style, and super crazy easy, all right up by the building. Maybe one 'advanced' point just down the hill. Something that only takes a couple minutes, as they may be distracted by ziplining, climbinb walls, fly fishing casting, etc. Perhaps prizes, like small candy for 1-2 punched, 3-4, all of them, etc.

Then this might be a learning experience. 2k people last year, but we are at the second site, which has all of the good stuff but is a walk from the Red Hawk. Hard to say exactly how it will play out.

Note

Possible Waterloo map updates required in the future. MMBA gets to put in a trail.

Orienteering (mapping) 1:10:10 [0] 3.55 mi (19:44 / mi) +34m 19:10 / mi

Scouting around the Adventure Day venue. Hopefully I remember everything by the time I have a chance to draft some markups.

I'm thinking of scaling it waaay down, having everything right up by the building.

A bit too many flies and rain for comfy mapping though.

Trail sampler at Maybury - hiking, horse, bike, park vehicle...

This heart rate ought to be high enough for everyone.

Trying to maximize our DINK opportunities this week.

Nice walk around Belle Isle. My favorite parts were the westish end with the view of Windsor and Detroit:

and the crushed gravel out and back around the Blue Heron Lagoon, where we saw this guy:
