Biking 2:22:29 intensity: (15:50 @0) + (2:01:36 @1) + (5:03 @2) 22.31 mi (9.4 mph) +95m

Three days in a row up at 5 am? Who am I, and what have I done with myself?

Google had told me a road (Cutler) went through to the dams, but on my Thursday ride, it said "Dead End", and with a time commitment, I couldn't screw around. Today I could, so I explored it.

I got to its end but had not seen Amy School Road. So I backtracked. Still no road. Well, this campsite has what could be a long disused two track. But that stalled out. The powerlines were trimmed. So I went out to them. Only they get to a steep bank and the river, and there ain't no bridge! So maybe I will dig up Igor's Google correction submission link and submit a markup.

Then I went back to the White Pine, and took it. Not really cutting in, but that sure rolls slow. Up in Morley I tried to pad the distance to get to 20 miles, so I went a little north of town and found a seasonal road, but forgetting about the creek it would encounter, I found it did not go through, but it was still fun.

Walking 1:25:15 [0] 1.54 mi (55:15 / mi) +3m 54:55 / mi

Puttered about the existing Stilson acreage. It could be fun for a little sprint fun, if you had lidar and could generate a map. Not a lot of elevation features, but enough vegetation and the odd intermittent stream or marsh would make it workable. Apparently I enjoy climbing tree stands so I did that again.

And we found some tiny beaver dams. That critter has leveled sooo many trees.

Turtles are starting to be out and about.

ahr:104 max:139 slept:8.0 shoes: Brooks Cascadia 8s

Up again at The Hour That Kyle Sometimes Gets Up to do a heavy (my standards, not Kyle's) pack hike (17 lbs kitty litter). Terrain was relatively flat. I see have I have lost my 4.2 mph mojo so I will have to get on that. Some nice views when the sun came up.

Walking 28:50 [3] 1.26 mi (22:53 / mi) +3m 22:43 / mi

Pushed dear daughter down the road a little bit and back with m-i-l and w-i-f-e. The in laws' new dog runs into every bit of water it can find.

Biking (Mixed) 3:24:56 intensity: (3:41 @0) + (2:12:32 @1) + (1:00:16 @2) + (8:27 @3) 42.25 mi (12.4 mph) +259m
ahr:130 max:163 slept:6.0 shoes: The General

Up at The Hour That Kyle Sometimes Gets Up to squeeze in a long ride before the day's activities.

The first stop was the Croton Dam. It was the first 110,000 volt plant. I scampered down to the bottom, but I don't think the 7 am fishing crowd sees a lot of men in tights with red clown shoes, so I went back up in elevation.

Next up was the Hardy Dam, the third largest earthern dam in the world, which produces 30 megawatts of power.

I like things built in the 1930s, because everything looks kind of cool and is not made like a damn pole barn like now.

Apparently you used to be able to get tours and such here, but 9/11 screwed that all up.

Continuing the dam theme, I stopped at the Morley dam, which is somewhat smaller. I bikewhacked under the bridge because rocks are fun.

I even made it back in time for brunch!

5 PM

Walking 43:22 [0] 1.04 mi (41:49 / mi) +2m 41:34 / mi

Surveying the 40 acres soon to be annexed to the Stilson ranch. I found one of the hunter's tree stands and had to climb it for pictures.

I think you could have a little sprint fun here. Shame no lidar for pulluatin. :(

Note

Finally registered for our anniversary-ish run. I went ahead and checked the box for Clydesdale, as I have full confidence I can stay above 185. I had to enter an expected finishing time so I used 45:29, which is the vdot prediction from the slippery but very flat 5k in December, versus this having 80 m of climb in the first 1.5 km. Now to ramp up to ~20 mpw by June. Figuring two or three easy runs per week with orienteering for speedwork.

Funky starting hr, maybe I should do a walking warmup or something? It was hardly the result of an aggressive pace.

US Nationals are tempting the first weekend in October. +1000 pts over USARAs for logistics, since I could drop off dear daughter and *almost* make the first starts, and they would probably accommodate a later arrival.

Weight stayed even after a needlessly indulgent weekend. But time to buckle down with the Spring Fury looming just seven weeks out.
