SLUG 50K: Fun Run

1. Started real easy in a 4-man group with David White, Paul Shoenlab, and Andrew Karandjeff.

3. Andrew & I split from the other two.

5. Stopped for water (about 10s).
6.
7. Big surge by Andrew, I decided not to follow.
8. Stopped for water.

10. Stopped for water. Paul caught back up, but stopped to take off his jacket.

12. Reversed loop direction (we did this every hour). Andrew was half a lap up. Paul about 30 seconds back.
13. Grabbed a gu and ate it on the loop.
14. Stopped for water.

16. Andrew lapped me! I wasn't worried because I knew he was planning to stop at 20 miles.

18. Stopped for water.

20. Stopped for water.
21. Paul was still hanging about 20 seconds behind, so I started a surge to see if he was serious about staying with me.

23. Reveresed loop direction again. Andrew had backed off a bit and wasn't too far ahead (although still +1 laps). Paul had dropped back a bit, so I pushed a bit more to get a decent gap.

25. Stopped for water.
26. Caught Andrew to get back on lead lap. Decided I had enough of a gap on Paul to return to my regular pace.

29. My hands were getting a bit stiff, so operating the water spigot was difficult. I switched to carrying my water bottle. Took it for a full lap and drank quite a bit.

31. Another gu.
32. Saw Andrew packing it in at the feed station. He had run a few easy laps to cool down after his 20, so I wasn't far behind when he stopped. He wished me well.
33. Reversed direction again.

35. Carried the bottle again.
36.
37. Carried water bottle.
38. Hit marathon distance at 3:34:40 - a trail PR!
39. Decided to see how much was left in the tank, so dropped the pace again.
40. Another Gu.

42. Carried water bottle.
43.
F. Reversed direction. Picked it up again for last lap but didn't try to sprint - 50K PR.
