Race Evaluation

Colorado 5-Day: US Relay Champs: Brown

Charlie

1. Everybody was long gone by the time I went out. Peter was already back. A little confused about which road, cut up the hill before the cabin ruin and up the spur, angling over just left of the big rock below the control.
2. +01:30Aimed for the road to the left, and went up and over a few spurs, but ended up low, between the road and the trail, so just went straight. When I hit the cross trail, again went straight on compass and pace. Stopped at some likely looking rocks a bit too soon, but pressed on and found it.
3. Up to the fence near the pit, and around to the left until I found a place the fence was down and I could just cross it. Tried to go right and lower, but ended up staying near the fence, and coming down the reentrant from the top.
4. Pretty straight. Looked like I was running into a big wall of rock, but found the slot and then just down the reentrant.
5. Fairly straight. Crossed the double ditch, then crossed the fence below the big rocks, angled up to the spur at the power line pole, then over the next spur and down the reentrant, seeing the bare rock from a distance.
6. Down the spur, crossed through a patch of aspens to the road.
7. Up the slope to the faint trail in the yellow patch. Followed the trail to where it turns downhill again, then around the side of the rocky outcrop and N to the control, careful not to lose height.
8. Across two spurs on the straight line, could see the rock with the bag on the hillside.
9. Down the reentrant to the top of the yellow, then climbing back up past the first two bare rock patches. Moving slowly. I think straight is better, coming in from above.
10. Straight.
F. Straight.
