No warmup. Started well back in 2000+ pack. Couldn't hear gun; started watch on cheer from runners ahead. Looked like it took about 40 seconds to cross start line. Hit mile 1 at 12 minutes and got faster with each successive mile. Final mile was in 9:42. Was surprised how many slow runners there were... even at over 10 minute pace after 5 miles the stream of runners had few gaps. I finished 1715th of 2096 finishers and 20th out of 27 in age group. By far a personal worst but to be expected with almost no running training and current injuries. Time was 5 minutes slower than last year's personal worst in same race.
On the positive, my back didn't complain during the race or afterwards and my arthritic toe also tolerated the race. I no longer notice the carbon foot plate in my left shoe.

West Walworth Loop, lots of headwind on last half of ride. Not a peep from my back during ride today. Way different from aborted run yesterday.

Set out to do 4 x 800m. Lower back tight at start of warmup. Back did not loosen up and was still hurting after a mile warmup. Aborted the session and jogged back home.
