WL 3 (rescheduled) @ South Seattle College. Well, it finally happened - Ben got me for the first time I can recall on a "real" course. I had one significant time loss, which was not a real mistake per se - there is a gate that has at times been open in the past, but this time was closed; I inadvisedly chose my route on the assumption that it would be open (without thinking to check), and thus had to do some extra distance. This likely cost 30s+, which would have been enough to sneak ahead of BB. Still, fair play, and I'm happy to see him and many of the other kids continue to improve their orienteering, seemingly at times with every race.

Relatedly, it's funny how as I grow older, I progressively care less about personal performance and feel inversely more invested in the orienteering journeys of our juniors, even if I have little personal involvement beyond chatting once in a while about their races, training, or whatnot. Beyond simple club pride, I suppose this is similar to the "parents living vicariously through their children" stereotype.
