Note

I took a week's vacation from work and also a vacation from running and weight lifting. I practiced orienteering in a relaxed way and rode my mountain bike for exercise. It was a nice break for body and mind, though I hit the weights again today, I go back to work tomorrow, and I'll probably run again in Tuesday:)

I went to Pontiac Lake today to practice using the terrain instead of just following bearings. I'm making progress with obvious features, but it is a work in progress. I missed a couple of controls using terrain appreciation but I went back and got them using attack points and bearings. Hopefully it will come with time if I keep working on it. I would really like to become more skilled at orienteering and translating map features into what I see on the ground is my biggest issue.

I focused on the center of the map and other than bugs it was really quite enjoyable. I just walked it but it is pretty open and uncluttered and it could probably be run with no problem.

Bike (Mountain Biking) 1:55:43 [3]

I rode the trail at Olson Park in Ann Arbor. I haven't been there in ages. It needs a little trimming here and there, but what a beautiful little trail.

I did parts of Guskov's great new Snyder Lake training map. I just messed around and walked it, and I did it more as a Score O.

LOTS of bugs! I was more of a threat to the bugs than the other way around though, I must have swallowed a dozen of them... I sprayed my hat, clothes, shoes, and gaiters with bug spray so I came away from the exchange more or less intact:)

Some parts were super overgrown and some were really nice and open. When I go back I think I'll insert myself into the meat of the course using the main north-south trail, which is a fire break.

I REALLY appreciate Guskov going to the time and trouble of creating this map!
