Running 15:36 [2] 2.0 mi (7:48 / mi)

First run with the insoles. Foot hurt a bit but didn't get worse, in fact it hurt on and off and now the next morning it doesn't hurt any more than usual.

So I think I might be on the way back, but it'll be a long way..

Gym 45:00 [3]

Usual stuff, minus the 3 mins rowing at the end, plus 5 mins running there, very slowly..

orthotics coming tomorrow, very excited!

Tuesday Feb 25, 2003 #

Strength 1:00:00 [3]

4 sets. Foot has started hurting more again so anxiously awaiting orthotics

Sunday Feb 23, 2003 #

Mountain Bike 2:00:00 [3]

With Abi in Foret de Compiegne. Nice to be out doing something, although not quite the same as running..

Saturday Feb 22, 2003 #

Gym 1:05:00 [3]

Usual stuff, felt good

Friday Feb 21, 2003 #

Strength 15:00 [3]

Didn't have time for more than one set

Gym 42:30 [4]

Waaah! More gym! I can't take it any longer..

Well actually it was ok, especially the elliptical, I love that machine. Rowing was a little painful so I cut it short at the end.

Went to see the podologist yesterday who said insoles will be ready next Weds and I could start running again immediately...except if I have an actual tear in the ligament, which I may, and I will find that out also on Wednesday

Note

So I do have plantar fasciitis (how boring..) - cure is to get orthotics which I am very happy about because I run very oddly and the P.F. is linked to shin splints and stress fractures I have had earlier - so orthotics should hopefully be good for foot in general

Orthotics should be ready Monday

Also I will have ultrasound (no not pregnant) to check if anything major torn as opposed to just stretched. Doesn't change anything on the orthotics but will need more shit done (like kinesitherapie) if it's torn..

Ah the joys of injury, a whole new vocabulary opens up..

Gym 43:00 [4]

Usual set, quite tired. Pulled through the elliptical on level 17 though (401 kcal in 20 min), then a lacklustre bike.

Can feel the benefit of all this rowing, I think..even though I only do 8 mins a pop, I have been doing it for 3 months now and it feels like it's getting easier

Note

It's impossible to get to any kind of decent weekly training time without being able to run. Yes, I can go to the gym and I can do strength, but there is only so much of that you can do in a week before you go crazy..

I suppose I could go biking but that would involve finding a bike. If I still can't run next weekend I think I may have to look into that in more detail

Sunday Feb 16, 2003 #

Strength 30:00 [3]

2 sets

Saturday Feb 15, 2003 #

Gym 1:05:00 [3]

A bit of a longer session: 10 rowing, 30 elliptical, 20 bike and 5 rowing at the end.

It's impossible to get the equivalent of a long run in a gym, after 1 hour of cardio you just go numb with boredom..

Gym 43:00 [3]

Back in the gym, tried the normal routine and it does put some strain on the foot, not enormous amounts but enough to make it uncomfortable at the end. Discovered that rowing and elliptical have similar effects in bending the foot between ball and toes, whereas cycling doesn't bend but puts strain on the foot through some pressure further back.

Tried running, but that was clearly a no.

Have finally made appointment to see doctor on Tuesday. It's a sports doc though, so I have high hopes!!

Strength 1:00:00 [3]

Well am back to something resembling normal feeling, but the foot is still not 100% (although getting better slowly every day). So I figured I'd stick to strength and gym stuff for a few days more at least. Very frustrating but at least I get to use my gym membership. First run tentatively planned for Sunday, I ran down the street yesterday and it didn't hurt, but I have my doubts that I can go further than 20mins at this stage.

Note

Foot pain I think is actual something akin to plantar fasciitis, not impact injury as originally thought. Will go and see doctor during the week to try and get more info. In the meantime foot is slowly healing, with emphasis on slowly.

Swimming 45:00 [3]

My foot still hurts, plus I have a cold as well. Original plan for today was to do a National Event in the UK but it wasn't to be..well I couldn't do nothing so I went for a swim. Was better than I thought.

Tuesday Feb 4, 2003 #

Strength 45:00 [3]

3 sets

Sunday Feb 2, 2003 #

Strength 1:00:00 [3]

4 sets. No orienteering given the fact I can hardly walk to the bathroom..

Saturday Feb 1, 2003 #

Running 1:40:17 [2] 18.0 km (5:34 / km)

Supposed to be a 2h long run, but it wasn't to be...first we ran right into a snowstorm and I got very very cold, and then my foot really hurts, so we stopped.

The foot hurt so much in the evening that I'm not likely to go to the Orienteering tomorrow. Weird injury, on the bottom of the heel. Seems like an impact injury but can't remember hitting it last weekend? (when it first showed up)
