Felt very strong today

Spinning (warmup/down) 18:00 [2]

Wednesday Jan 30, 2002 #

Running 1:08:03 [3] 9.65 mi (7:03 / mi)

Jamaica Pond with an extra loop around the pond (+1.45m) - splits 23.54 there, 10.15 around, 10.19 around, 23.35 back. Felt very strong. Weather much colder, but the ground was hard and the running mostly excellent. No wind, either.

Running 55:02 [4] 8.1 mi (6:48 / mi)

It was pretty calm today on the way to school, so I thought I'd chance a run to the Science Museum..bad idea, the gale force winds were there as usual on the Esplanade..

Shame really, felt strong, but motivation seriously waning after 20 minutes of wind tunnel testing..also needed a 2 min pit stop, ugh.

Running 2:08:36 [2] 16.0 mi (8:02 / mi)

Long run with Abi, Karen and Kenny around most of Middlesex Fells, except the southwestern bit of Pine Hills. A lovely, warm and sunny day! Kenny's GPS said this run was 14.2m, but I liberally added a bit of climb to get to 8minute miles.

Running 1:20:56 [3] 11.1 mi (7:17 / mi)

Home to Watertown. Very tired on the way out (7:30 speed), faster on the way back (just over 7:00). hopefully due to lack of sleep

Running 56:38 [4] 8.2 mi (6:54 / mi)

Jamaica Pond. Very warm, but also very windy. Ground icy to slushy to muddy, so quite happy with the time. Calves sore from strength yesterday, must stretch more.

Orienteering 1:46:58 [2] 12.0 km (8:55 / km)

GNC Extreme-O. Weather variable from hard rain to dry. Lots of fun though, including aerial photos, grid maps, memory legs, brown only, plotting, rope crossing of a stream, pedal boating, crawling into a culvert, and chasing a canoe control. I appear to have won this, but more because the opponents of previous days in some ways all disqualified themselves: The finnish dude ran with some old guys, Benetis ran with a girl, and Joe B decided to lose 15 minutes at the first control. At least I beat all those military types...

Orienteering 1:08:36 [3] 12.0 km (5:43 / km)

Day 2 of GNC. Warm and sunny this time, and a much easier course making for a much faster time. Not much faster relative to others though, for some reason. Some finnish B-team dude won today in 54. sweet. At least I came 3rd on the day, but more training is needed.

Orienteering 1:31:44 [3] 13.1 km (7:00 / km)

Day 1 of Georgia Navigator Cup (10+315). Freezing (40s), very hard rain starting about 10 minutes into my run and getting heavier throughout. Made dumb mistakes at beginning, and then got continually colder and colder. Medium hypothermia by the end, and I am really not sure how I found the last 5 controls, my brain being totally frozen.

Running 59:19 [3] 8.2 mi (7:14 / mi)

Jamaica Pond. Sluggish. Not feeling very positive about the weekend, but the competition is not all that strong, so we'll see

Running 36:38 [3] 5.1 mi (7:11 / mi)

River to Harvard +1. My first run this year, unbelievably! Felt a little rusty after 10 days trekking and no running, almost shaky on the legs. Hopefully todays run and then a longer run tomorrow will be enough before Atlanta this weekend

Monday Jan 14, 2002 #

Note

10 days of Trekking over the last 2 weeks, 4 to 10 hours each day. Some pretty intense hills too, but no running. We{ll see next weekend in Atlanta whether I lost some fitness or not..
