Running 37:53 [3] 8.46 km (4:29 / km) +87m 4:15 / km
ahr:138 max:165

Attempt at a fast park loop. Despite starting off v tired, felt pretty good so pushed the pace a bit and that worked until halfway. Then quickly faltered and needed a little sit down.

Running 19:01 [3] 4.16 km (4:34 / km) +26m 4:26 / km
ahr:132 max:161

Remainder of the loop, “after suitable rest” as they say in tennis.

Now that I’m getting old, I really need to find a way to actually do nothing for an hour each day, as hard as that is.

Running 39:31 [3] 8.41 km (4:42 / km) +114m 4:24 / km
ahr:123 max:159

Second run in a row that felt fast but really wasn’t. I blame the heat.

Was going to do a longer one but decided against it. Good thing too!

Orienteering 39:05 [3] 8.35 km (4:41 / km) +24m 4:37 / km
ahr:142 max:176

Epsom City Race.

More of a running race than orienteering, but a good excuse to go out for a hardish run in the baking heat. And I kept my head screwed on, when it was tempting to just switch off.

22 secs behind paul c and 11 ahead of Abi. Phew.

Easy.

Running 1:16:58 [3] 16.17 km (4:46 / km) +172m 4:31 / km
ahr:133 max:152

OK time but very tough run. Felt weak underneath plus stomach ache which got bad enough I had to stop and correct that halfway.

Orienteering 27:36 [3] 5.65 km (4:53 / km) +17m 4:49 / km
ahr:135 max:158

Boston Manor and Elthorne Park race

Not the greatest area in the world, but fun to try once. Ran through ankle deep water on a sort-of-lock-thing a couple of times, plus rain made it quite eerie.

Pretty dodgy map meant a few hesitations, but ok until 3 controls from the end when I lost 30’ on an unmarked path leading into yellow-that-was-green-on-the-map. Bummer.

Felt crap physically and had trouble breathing at some point, which is a bit strange a week after beasting it up an Austrian hill and no signs of an illness.

Still, fun to be out.

Running 57:52 [3] 11.44 km (5:03 / km) +34m 4:59 / km
ahr:128 max:147

Run / shuffle back. Not great but I made it.

Really fun route along the River Brent, Syon Park and Old Isleworth then along the Thames.

Running 1:20:45 [3] 17.01 km (4:45 / km) +8m 4:44 / km
ahr:122 max:146

With Abi, having dropped the kids off at the cinema in the meantime!

Much harder work than it should have been, especially the last 5k. Abi felt the same so I put it down to the humidity.

In Austria, with Abi, from the bottom to the top of the “Hartkaiser” gondola, the long way around. Second time I’ve done this after the snowfest of last October.

This is a pretty cool run with initially 600m climb up a small road and then some ups and downs along mostly single alpine tracks. 90% is runnable, just the occasional bit is too steep or rutted. Then at the end the gondola back down!

We set off at 7.30 and caught one of the early gondolas back down for a late breakfast. Result! But pretty pooped for the rest of the day.

Also the first of 2 or 3 training runs for RRR’s Lake District Birthday Traverse in early September.

Same again, with Abi.
Aimed for an easy pace, but failed.
