Once again a surprisingly decent evening effort, despite lack of sleep, motivation etc.

Even the calf survived, possibly helped by a post run massage on Saturday. Blessed be the body.

Really CBA to get out so thought I’d stick to flat paths to avoid (i) climb and (ii) mud.

That worked out OK and the pace was decent despite it feeling quite easy. The only issue is that my calves are really tightening up and started hurting from halfway round. Not bad enough to stop running yet, but I feel it’s coming.

To be fair it serves me right for doing zero strength or conditioning. I really must get that sorted.

Running 38:12 [3] 6.9 km (5:32 / km) +239m 4:43 / km
ahr:146 max:171

Completing my work Tour Of Europe in our Barcelona office, and if it's Barcelona is has to be Montjuic (though coming back on the Funicular then Metro).

I used a 2017 TICBCN map at 1:7.5k printed off the Internet and discovered I could barely read it without glasses now, but luckily I had been there before so knew the general lay of the land.

Cool views as last time, even better as this time I found the cliffside path around the castle at the top.

Theoretically 239m of climb although I did use 2 of the escalators as my calves were still very tight from Sunday, so that might be slightly overstated.

Running 1:02:54 [3] 12.59 km (5:00 / km) +131m 4:45 / km
ahr:149 max:174

Very decent effort this, and felt like a good workout without being insanely tough.

It was a miserable day full of drizzle / rain so everything was sodden - not generally a big issue on the main track, except that I ignored the “path closed - flood” warning at my peril and had to do a bit of swimming near Ham Gate.

Back in Paris for work and chose a hotel near Montmartre for a change (very nice one too.)

Forgot that Montmartre is actually quite poor for running - and pretty steep - but the sightseeing was great and I included a loop of the Cimetiere. Didn’t really feel like the done thing but there were hundreds of dead people and only 2 live ones, so I don’t think anyone really minded.

Sunday Mar 3 #

5 PM

Running 38:12 [3] 7.57 km (5:03 / km) +68m 4:50 / km
ahr:138 max:158

Had chosen this route years ago to avoid all the mud even when it was very wet, but it didn’t quite work this time.

Very much a recovery jog having spent yesterday on a full day’s ski in La Thuile, so I could feel the thighs burning. Decent effort though and took my mind off the fact the Man U are just utterly terrible at the moment (and City utterly excellent.)
